Why do you work out? General health and well being. I feel better and am a happier person when I exercise regularly.

How long to you work out? 30-60 minutes, depending on what I'm doing that day.

Are you a memeber of a gym? Yes

How often to you workout? I am at the gym 4 times a week.

Do you want to loose weight, tone up, or beef up? Lose weight mostly. I definitely don't want to "beef up". lol

How many reps do you do? When lifting weights I do 10.

How many sets do you do? 2

Do you eat right? Most of the time, yes. Compared to the typical american I eat very well. 5 servings of fruit and veggies each day, minimal saturated fat, whole grains, minimal packaged food, I eat about 50% organic, etc. I track everything I eat in a food journal as well.

What do you do on your recovery days? Nothing - that's the point, right?

Do you workout? Yes

Why do you work out? Because if I didn't, I'd look like Star Jones...before the surgery!!

How long to you work out? 1 Hour. I also walk during lunch at work, but I don't count that.

Are you a memeber of a gym? yes.

How often to you workout? 5 days, maybe 4 per week.

Do you want to lose weight, tone up, or beef up? I would love to lose weight. But I love wine too....

How many reps do you do? Whatever the instructor says. (I do classes)

How many sets do you do? See above

Do you eat right? 6 days a week. But I drink a lot of wine on Saturday! wink

What do you do on your recovery days? Drink wine. Sometimes I go for a walk with my other half. He's slim and never works out. But he also has self control.

Does wine make you feel sick? hmmm

If it made me feel sick I wouldn't drink it! It makes me feel goooood! When I drink a lot, I make sure I chug about a gallon of water with an ibuprofen before going to bed. Otherwise I'll have a crazy head ache! Like this morning? I drank a bottle of Shiraz last night! But I had like three bottles of water. I feel just fine!

How often to you workout? Four days a week.

Do you want to loose weight, tone up, or beef up? Beef up and tone some.

How many reps do you do? Until I can't do any more. Go to failure every single set. Best way to lift EVER.

How many sets do you do? 18 per body part, which is broken up into 6 sets of 3 different exercises/lifts.

Do you eat right? No.

What do you do on your recovery days? Nothing special.

Yes I do workout! I used to workout a lot... but I got quite lazy. I'm going on holiday in a couple of months and it's kind of an incentive - I wanna be able to weat a bikini this year (maybe), for the first time (in public) for 7 years. I'm not going to stop after the holiday though.. I want to get back to my former self... I dislike what having kids has done to me.

I hate the gym. I get sooo bored with weights, rowing machines, treadmills... yawn but I like aerobic-type excercise and I can handle a few sit-ups and stuff like that....

My main aim is to stay toned, but I also just want to feel healthy and counter-balance the vast amounts of alcohol and chocolate I consume on a regular basis biggrin

Liquor is something else. That can have me feeling like roadkill if I don't pace myself. They key is to drink top shelf high quality anything and drink a full glass of water every two drinks. Which means the huge bottle of H2O before going to bed.

I do cycle a lot though, every day, and I do a lot of walking.

I see nobody answered. Health results for me emerged in one month, I don't take chemical anti-depressants and the organic ones didn't bring much improvement, this one def did though. Even physiologically I feel myself changing after 9 months upon starting, confidence level is higher than before. The downside though lol at least for me is, it can be downright impulsive, if I missed one day of training I get in a rut, its def one of the most motivational factors in my daily life's routine.

As for physically, the changes started after two month. The minute I felt light in my movement, balanced, flexible and the muscle cramps stopped showing up unanounced, I knew my hard work was paying off. And yes, it shaped me up something fierce too.

I remember when we were had the discussion which was right after me having a huge anxiety attack and bout with depression. That prompted me to start taking vitamins and working out which helped a great deal.

How long to you work out? anywhere from 1 to two hours, depending on whether I'm solo or w/ my buddies

Are you a memeber of a gym? Yes, used to go to Synergy gym, now going to Xsport Fitness

How often to you workout? 3 days a week (usually)

Do you want to loose weight, tone up, or beef up? lose the gut, trim the flabby parts and beef up the scrawny parts

How many reps do you do? depends

How many sets do you do? depends

Do you eat right? much better than say a year ago. In fact I've lost almost 20 pounds in 3 months!

Do you workout? Yes

Why do you work out? Because quitting workout would lead to bad effects on my body (both apprearance & health), and also because I enjoy it

How long to you work out? Between 30 minutes and three hours

Are you a member of a gym? Yes

How often to you workout? It used to be everyday but I had to slow it down for a while due to health issues.

Do you want to loose weight, tone up, or beef up? I'm too flexible so I constantly need to build muscles to hold my spine and joints upright, but I DO NOT want to beef up.

How many reps do you do? 15

How many sets do you do? 3 or 4

Do you eat right? I'm trying

What do you do on your recovery days? Resting, partying, walking, dancing, yoga...

Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity

One thing that no one mentions in these "gym" threads is the aspect of intimidation that I firmly believe is a major reason for keeping people from working out.

It took me a LONG time (and a recent forced attitude readjustment) to get over the ridiculous notion that people are "staring at me"...especially being a guy that can only move 20lb dumbells while grunts on either side are moving 120lb ones! (OK, in all honesty, that still bothers me but having a buddy or two working out with me eases that.)

But now that I'm at a larger gym with a wider range of members (from muscleheads to scrawny dudes and everything in between) all doing their own thing, the intimidation factor is no longer a determining factor.

I know of women who won't step foot in a gym because they aren't happy with the way they look, which to me is the same thing (probably intimidated by shapelier females).

Does the gym intimidate anyone here?

I don't view it as intimidation, but competition. I see dudes who are at a level that I aspire to. Makes me hit the weights harder. I couldn't do that at home.

highfive

That's exactly what my buddy made me realize! For example (and I cringe having to admit this) when I struggle to bench 85lbs (2 10lb plates on each side + 45lb bar) and my buddy does reps with 305lbs (wtf!) what I am thinking the whole time is; "Get to at LEAST half of what he does!". That's doable (at least he thinks so).

If I instead started to dwell on how pitiful my bench is NOW, then I'd just quit. (Which I have done often in the past.)

It's all a state of mind!

You've won half the battle. Everybody has to crawl before they can walk. It took me years to get to where your buddy is. When I finally did 300+ lbs bench/400+ lb squats, I felt like I climbed fucking Mt. Everest.

Take your time, do it right, make training a lifestyle(not a chore), eat decent, and you'll be fine. That goes for both sexes.

Baby steps!

Trust me, you're not alone. That self-concsious feeling hovered over me at first, but I got over that quickly because I noticed that almost everybody were busy doing their own thing to bother scrutinizing other folks. And its not only me, I've known many friends who pointed out the same thing only to beat that notion a week from their start, well, 1/2 of them really lol Plus, its a drag at first esp if you spent long periods without work out, your body don't cooperate with you, and you end up the next day moving like you were hit with bricks all over your body.

I'll tell you one thing though, I've seen over-weight women & men come EVERYDAY for the past two years I've been here, and seeing their positive transformation gave me a big boost when there were days when I don't feel like stepping outside my doorstep, let alone work out, the pros weren't the only ones who made me aspire to outdo myself. I've learned alot from these folks without having ANY conversation with them.

I say have a big dose of "fuck it" and enjoy yourself nod
