Serena Williams may have a serious bone infection and lose her leg

Serena Williams has been away from the courts for too long, and now the word is out that her foot injury sustained at a German restaurant has been worsened by a serious bone infection (osteomyelitis). What? Supposedly, Serena’s foot is not responding to intravenous antibiotics such as Vancomycin, considered as a last resort, and Serena is now losing weight and growing weaker. Not to mention that rumors are even saying Serena may lose her leg.

All this is so shocking that I absolutely don't believe it's true. However, if this is just a rumor, the people who launched it are very irresponsible.

Serena's tweet of January 23rd about her sore throat ("My throat feels raw. every time I take a sip of sumthin it feels like i just swallowed 20,000 mini knives. its 5:10am…") has been taken as a proof of the side effects of the antibiotics by some sources: "IV Vancomycin’s serious side effects include a persistent sore throat and swelling of the tongue and throat". No other health issues have been mentioned by Serena on her Twitter ever since.

Serena has significantly dropped in the rankings following her skipping of the Australian Open, and is now ranked 12th.

Had any of you heard about this???

I went to a Grammy party on Saturday and when I walked in the door the FIRST person I saw was Serena Williams. She was wearing a big boot on her leg. I'm a HUGE fan and I knew she'd been skipping the last tourneys but I just thought it was due to ankle or knee injury.

When I mentioned it to a friend, she told me that it's been all over the Web that Serena stepped on some glass and got this infection 9 months ago and has been undergoing antibiotic treatments for awhile but it's not working.

All that being said, she still got her fist pumpin on at the party. woot!

I hope she makes a full recovery and keeps her leg and makes it back on the court. pray

Serena Williams, and the beautiful specimen that is actor Boris Kodjoe, were spotted in Dallas last night enjoying the Super Bowl Festivities. Unfortunately, Serena is still suffering from a foot injury that she obtained last Summer while in Germany. According to the Seattle Times, she is scheduled to play in an exhibition match in Oregon on March 8th but it’s a possibility she will not participate. She hasn’t played in a competitive match since winning Wimbledon in July.

Serena: “I don’t know how it happened. Honestly, I think someone may have dropped something, which is how I got cut on both feet.”

Following all of that, she realized she needed surgery to correct a lacerated tendon, which is what prompted the need for the boot. “I’m out of it now,” she says, although she wore it just last week at a U.S. Open player party. “I hated that boot. I plan to use it for target practice for my serves.”

She must be pissed that she's wearing a new boot. I don't think she's that weak if she goes to a grammy party. How did she look to you?

that answers my question, she looks good but that must be a serious infection if it takes that long.

She was getting her party on while hobbling around. But if she got hurt in July that's a long ass time to wear a boot. I wouldn't expect her to admit to this major issue until there was no other option. But almost 9 mos in a boot is suspect. hmmm

My son had ostiomalitis (sp) when he was little in his heel. After results of scan and the way he was walking the doctor called the hospital and arranged for my son to be admitted asap and on intervenous antibiotic in the hospital. He was in hospital 2 weeks. The first intervenous antibiotic had to be changed because of an allergic reaction.

Barry Bonds had a lot of problems with a staph infection. Supposedly steroids lower your body's ability to fight off infection.

Not saying anything (before everyone goes apeshit on me) other than smoke keeps appearing around the same people....

I've been trying to avoid reading this. She really is one of the greatest female athletes in our nation's history. She 's talented, good-natured, killer business woman, has a fine ass man...it's depressing to think she may not be in the best health.

I was thinking in that direction too but because of the apeshit thing I didn't mention anything lol

But if she does use or not, not wishing this to anyone. Just hope it's not as bad as they say, 8 months is a long time for a real sportswoman.

Has there been other stuff that might implicate Serena where steroids are concerned? I'm totally ignorant of these things.

I don't believe there has, but her intense muscle structure has been questioned by the media and conspiracy theorists alike.

In the era of designer PED's, I wouldn't put it past any athlete to use. Not singling out Serena at all.

Serena has been huge and ripped since she won her first US Open when she was 17. They are extensively, randomly drug tested and there's been nothing. Asshole media and commentators love to talk shit about her.

To be honest I thought her cut foot was just an excuse to get out of playing some compulsory tournaments, (she has had a history of 'illnesses' and cancellations throughout her career to get out of lower tier events) but skipping a couple of slams is worrisome. The way she's looking with her boot, she'll be lucky if she'll be ok for the French in May sad

Absolutely don't believe she'll lose her leg.

It's not true smile Oracene Price (her mother) was asked about it a few weeks ago on twitter and said it wasn't true. Also a couple of days ago Serena tweeted this: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/8rru48 After the whole incident last July, she was actually training to play again in late October but then her foot got messed up again (either she trained too hard too soon or the surgery didn't come out right) so that's what set her back to having another operation and wearing the boot again confused

She's trying to play Fed Cup in the spring so I think she'll be back soon people biggrin
