Okay June7. I respect your right to your own opinion, I just don't agree. I was actually just trying to address your complaints. Do you really, honestly, beilieve that Barry Humphries was serious? Do you not see that this is part of the act with this character, regardless of whether or not you find it funny? Not flamin', I'm just curious to know if you really believe that this was intended as a serious attack on Latinos.

From what I know of this character that Barry portrays as Dame Edna, it's not something I am in2 anyway. 2 further portray her "comedic arrogance" in a magazine that caters 2 supposedly everyone, was over the line. (imo)

As I said, there's a time and place 4 everything... I didn't think the forum she was given was the place 4 her brand of race-bashing.

Then again, had I been at a comedy club, sippin' my 7'n7, I may have felt differently. Then again, u have 2 consider where u're coming from... Now, I don't know ur ethnicity, but I'm assuming u're caucasion. This may b hilarious 2 u, having only 2 deal with it as a now and again joke.

4 a Latino, Black, Egyptian or Asian - or anyone of "color" 4 that matter, it gets tired and old.

I can't tell u how many times I've been online, in a chat, and others notice the conversation... perhaps questions of race come out and soon a few latinos r talking 'bout latino topics, or maybe their ID has a latino word in it... whatever, next u'll hear someone else say things like, "the hotels are closed, look at all the Mexicans in here, who's makin' the beds???", or "who's doing my garden? all the Mexicans r in here?" "What, there's no more work in the fields?" ...shit like that...

It gets old. Maybe u're right. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive. Maybe it was the 5th racist thing I read that day and I was sick of it...

I know that when I started this thread, I was reacting 2 something I had just received... I was somewhat irritated and therefore, venting. Afterwards, u'll notice, I too started joking around and lightening up.

Overall - she's probably no more racist than u or I... but her audience is bigger. There's more chance of me hearing or reading something "she" said than me hearing or reading it from the average joe. And - if said enuff, it starts 2 become more of a personality trait than comedy relief.

As I've said before, I never really found her humor 2 b funny 2 begin with... so, this was just "icing on the cake" that she (or Barry) blurted out this tirade against latinos... in a forum that I found unexcusable. (And I'm sure I'm not alone in this.)

In any case - it's fine. What makes me laugh might not b what makes u laugh. But I do like the Star Wars movies!

I got a big kick out of seeing her host the Queen's jubilee concert, since she acted like she was more important to English soceity than the Queen herself!
