Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) - Australian girls boarding school goes on a day trip to Hanging Rock where some of the girls mysteriously vanish. star star star star (out of five) (or even higher after another viewing)

So we watched this tonight. Hmm. How many theories are there to their disappearance? Plain old abduction or something supernatural?

According to the final chapter of the book, The Secret of Hanging Rock, the girls walked into a time warp.

sort of more like on stargate, it was a shimmering circle of light that proved irresistible, but the sad thing is that it closed before Irma was able to enter it sad

Well at least the fat girl got a slap. She had it coming and both myself and my wife were glad of it.

a great movie to watch with my graphic artist of my buddy.....he loved it

I did too. Even my son of 15 months loved it. Couldn't take his eyes off it, and he only watches Elmo.

Shutter Island. 3.5

Not bad (DiCaprio plays himself as usual) but having seen A Beautiful Mind recently it doesn't really compare in the Paranoid Schizophrenic genre. The setting is pleasant, the characters believable, though not outstanding, the length acceptable but the plot is rather patchy. Some parts you can't help but think "that wouldn't happen". Recommended nonetheless.

I have Moon, Kick Ass and Inception to watch aswell (thanks Big Al for those wink ). Will let you know how they are.

what's awkward about this is it isn't so funny as it is cute, but at the same time the language is a bit too filthy to be seen by little kids lol

Pegg & Frost are capable of much, much better though. I expected a stronger come back from them.

Fenwick

Winter's Bone - 4.5 out of 5

Fantastic film that had a few very deserving Academy Award nominations for acting. Extremely slow moving, dark, character driven film. Great performances. Not quite a perfect movie, but pretty darn close.

John Adams - 3.5 out 5

So this was a seven part HBO mini-series and not technically a movie but I thought it was worth sharing. The first two episodes were brilliant, the middle sort of lost its' way and the last episode was very powerful. Really solid performances by Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney. In the middle four episodes I felt some important stuff got glossed over and/or not even mentioned, while some less important issues wound up taking more time than they should have. Overall, if the period of the founding fathers is something that intrigues you, this is definitely worth a gander.

I felt the same way. Some people make such a big deal out of Kill Bill. Truth is Quentin Tarantino got really lucky with Pulp Fiction. PF is a great film, with a great cast, but he hasn't made a good movie since.

FauxReal

1.5/5

Darth Maul haunts some kid. Some old lady that looks like Jigsaw merged w/ the Joker haunts other family members. Things pop out of closets, appear where they shouldn't be. Lots of smoke machines were used in the making of this film. It probably only cost a few thousand to make which I guess is good.

Somebody from another board nailed it when it comes to Whit Stillman's movies...

I really thought I would hate Stillman films until I saw them. I have no desire to sympathetize with preppies, yuppies, or other over-priveleged Americans.

But Stillman loves his characters so much, without being afraid to show their hypocrisies and frailties, that he wins you over.

Especially the last part.

yes, I saw Metropolitan at about 18 and i remember thinking "What the hell is a debutante? Who are these people?"

But I really enjoyed it. It's a world I don't really know, but it's a complete and interesting world like any other.

I just put last days of disco on my netflix
