Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) - Australian girls boarding school goes on a day trip to Hanging Rock where some of the girls mysteriously vanish. star star star star (out of five) (or even higher after another viewing)

It was interesting to see how the scenes were translated for Americans. It wasn't bad, but I still prefer the original.

it's now been quite a while since I saw the swedish one, but it seemed to my memory almost scene for scene confuse

I didn't like the yellow monster contact lenses though rolleyes that looked silly

I DID like the fancy filming though, like the shots through the flashing lights at the train crossing etc. Nice cinematography, and the gritty dark feel was appealling.

Kodi is always a pleasure to watch.

It irritated me one never gets to see the mother's face lol

I'm GLAD certain scenes were cut out, they didn't make a lot of sense in the swedish version.

I give both movies about 4/5

Unfortunately I read the book first, so the movies lost a LOT of impact for me.

yeah

I'm sure if I saw the swedish movie first, and got the full impact like you did when you saw it, I would have liked it better for sure, but since both times, the impact was lost on me, I can't really say one was better than the other.

I liked that Eli in the original had no visible fangs or any other stereotypical vampire look like in the remake. I'm so tired of that.

Fenwick

I just tried Secretariat (2010) last night. What a paint by numbers passionless flick. (I thought Seabiscuit was very good). They tried to portray Diane Lane's character as a strong, independent woman in a time of blatant chauvinism but wound up portraying her as a soulless B**** who pretty much abandons her family for a f***ing horse. Somehow, the producers of this movie thought I was supposed to look beyond that and be rooting for her to "win". I have no idea why. Even the usually fantastic John Malkovic was an absolute robot.

After watching Seabiscuit, it was kind of like going from Band of Brothers to The Pacific. One was so severly outclassed by the other. (The difference being The Pacific was still good). Secretariat was a train wreck.

Yojimbo - (1961) - Kurosawa's film about a samurai turned body guard. It was like an old western movie set in small town Japan. These kind of movies are defintiely not for everyone. Sometimes the acting is a bit dated and over the top. But I thoroughly enjoyed this (like Seven Samurai before it) and will definitely be checking out other Kurosawa films now.
