Its an oldie...but i finished this just before Christmas ....fantastic book and I never wanted it to end, bit mind twisty at first until you get your head around the logistics but absoloutely beautiful and heart wrenching in places

rented the movie - absolute crap (couldnt wait for it to end) and what summed it up completely, besides the point it watered down the book, altered stuff completely and missed out all the bones of the story and really interesting bits....something happens towards the end of the book that is pivital, integral to the story - dare i say the whole point of the story.....and its totally absent from the movie

So if youve seen the film...dont be put off from the book

I'm now reading The Land of Painted Caves by Jean M Auel. This is the last installment of the Earth Children series. I know it's going to be repetative, but I loved the entire series and can't wait to see how it all ends.

I'm still smack in the middle of it. I wasn't actually reading it for advice, rather than try to get to know the man behind the music better, and his testimony, what he stands for at this stage in his life. It is at times heartwarming, playful, but very real in that it speaks to the now generation in unabashed, urban vernacular, and made me realize just how plain jane and relatively conservative a life I'd had growing up compared to a big chunk of my generational peers out there.

I would say that for people that already have an active, living, breathing spiritual life where they are devout to abiding in their unwavering belief in God being supreme in their life (I guess the plain jane nerds like me), then nothing Kirk is saying is new here. But for those who have more of a passing, casual relationship with God, and are looking for a lil taste or introduction on what it means to be Christian in today's bling bling- don't stop, get it- get it world...and they want to go deeper and find ways to walk more closely to God according to his Word...while still living in this don't stop get it get world yet not being apart of it ('cause it ain't like you can just pick up and fly to Mars just so you can avoid people and their craziness). This can be a nice read.

Based on his formative experiences, though, I would say that the demographic of the book would appeal primnarily to the under 40's, who deal with such issues as trust, commitment, materialism, abandonment, and promiscuitiy-relating to self esteem issues. It's deeply rooted in experiences unique to the black male experience in America, so I would say another target demographic for this book would be the black audience (and especially the older generations trying to make sense of what's going on with younger people in our community where love in ourselves and love in the Lord is concerned).
