The word "like", used primarily by teenaged girls trying to be cool by doing the whole Valley Speak thing:-

"And I was like really annoyed, and she was all like in my face, and I was like so mad, and like you know like, it was like really skank of her, like"

I swear it drives me up the wall. And I want to say:-

"So you were "like annoyed", so not exactly annoyed, but something very close to it that approximated it but wasn't exactly like it?"

success depends on your intended purpose.

your wife says "my father was successful for all his life" probably meaning his intended purpose was to work at something (being an insurance agent) that would provide for him and his family. He seems to have done so...there fore he was successful.

what is your intended purpose? if it's just to be able to play music (a musician) then it seems you are successful. but if your intended purpose is to be able to provide for you and your family as a musician....then? you will have to answer that question.

that's a good one. it is very much over used. I sometimes have friends saying sorry for the most mundane things...I'm like you don't have to be sorry...it's ok.

that makes me think of "just kidding" that term can burn my butt sometimes. I hate it when it's used as a afterthought of something that was said that shouldn't have been or is regretted.
