Paris Hotels - suggestions?

I don't know Paris at all. Any agents or residents know their hotels? Good location for shopping and dining. Max budget $400/night (of course less would be better, but looks as though $400 is on the low end of the scale). Suggestions welcome.

I stayed here in a modest room a few months ago: http://www.paris-hotel-taylor.com/

It's a 3 star cheap and cheerful, nice decor and all the staff speak English. Just a walk away from Republique Metro. It was so easy.

I REALLY REALLY recommend that if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, buying the Paris Digi Guide. It was so helpful, especially with the offline maps so you didn't need to wait on GPS.

We spent 3 days in Disneyland and 5 days in Paris. Our only problem was eating out every single night, we were having modestly priced meals instead of anything particularly classy. We still found some amazing little places hidden away and got a 3 course steak meal for about €30 each including wine, which is WAY cheaper than London. Strange how everyone kept telling me how expensive everything was supposed to be, but it really wasn't compared to here.

We only found one place to be a bit rude which was a bit like the Paris equivalent of Sloane Square in London, somewhere around Rue Du Bac station, but it was worth it to see that mad Deyrolles museum/shop.

May I suggest www.booking.com to you? I find it such a great site to find hotels in every city.

You can find all the hotels in Paris, choose in which district (arrondissement) you want to be (nearby subway stations or shops/cultural buildings), pick out the cheapest ones, check out pictures, read reviews which give you info on the nearest baker or if it's noisy etc. I highly recommend it.

Hmmm boutique hotel - very helpful info Ellie, if you can remember the name of that restaurant with the 3-course meal - let me know. Yes, dining out in London is tough on a budget. Thanks for this.

yes but I just can't justify $500 a night for basically - a bed. That's crazy.

Thanks Intense, been using Trip Advisor because they try to ensure that the hotel managment themselves are not sending in reviews...but this is good too. I'm heading there now.

Cool, don't know when you're going but I would also suggest go close to the summer or the fall, that's when Paris is beautiful and warm. Have fun there, it's absolutely my favorite city.

When we stayed in Paris we stayed here http://www.hotel-paris-batignolles.com/ and it was good value maybe much cheaper than what you are looking at though. Location was close to Montmarte and Sacre Coeur, close to Metro stops. Will go back someday.

I was staying in a nice, cheap hotel close to Montmatre some years ago. The room for 3 reminds me of the one for 2 that we were staying in. I wonder if it was that hotel hmmm. Is the metro station right at the corner?

It's about half way between Rome and Place de Clichy stations so maybe not the same place, they were about 3 mins away. I have to avoid this thread because it's really making me want to go back and I can't afford it. neutral
