Okay, who's garden did you rob of those lovely leeks?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
My seedlings are doing poorly.
I may start over with plants from the nursery. So not the way I wanted to go - its more expensive, and I can't be sure of the conditions they were started in.

Yes of course! A bunch of the seedlings are Roma tomatoes and I just planted purple tomatillo seeds in a pot to get those going. Plus I will get some transplants. I have a feeling I'm gonna be setting up more beds before this is all said and done.

I love Acer Tree's / Shrubs. I currently have four, Two tree's and Two shrubs.
Would show pictures, but the leave's havent fully unfurled yet so would be pointless
One of the shrubs is 12 years old this year and when in full leaf looks awesome, but in the UK our last Winter was a tough one and I have had to cut a huge amount of dead wood off this year , the others are a lot younger, but still beautiful.
My Kid brother gave me one of his Acer trees shortly before he passed away, it is the most amazingly beautiful tree I have seen yet, the leaves on it are green / white and red tinted during summer then turn to a fiery orange in autumn, absolutely gorgeous!!
Just Google "Acer" on google Images and you will see what I mean
Prices aren't always cheap, due to them being grafted hybrids etc, but they are so well worth the money if you look after them Life is short, don't be a dick.

John, have you considered citrus trees? Martha Stewart was going over them on her 10am show this morning (she moved from NBC to the Hallmark channel)

I always thought citrus was for warmer climate. When I was a kid we had lemon and lime in the backyard (and bananas and avocado and mango).
Oh Also planted a blackberry bush last weekend.

Oh QUESTION: Among my sprouts, some of the Mesculin mix lettuce ones are all dangly, long and falling to the side...am I supposed to pinch the first leaves off to make it grow sturdier or something? I better go look in my book.
The cucumber sprouts are looking like I probably should be planting them in the ground soon.

she said a couple of them bear fruit year-round.. can be planted outside, or in a planter and kept in a greenhouse or just in a sunny room -- does the sun room get a lot of sun?
ooh! yummy my grandmother's friends in Long Island had a huge, huge yard.. on a metal link fence they had a grapevine...

The sunroom gets lots of light but in winter gets really cold. But that might change when we have different windows put in.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Citrus trees would not survive the winters here. They must have warm weather year round I believe. Notice that most of our citrus friut comes from either Florida, California or Puerto Rico.

or you could build a small greenhouse at the other end of the backyard [Edited 4/8/11 11:33am] Hag. Muse. Web Goddess. Taurean. Tree Hugger. Poet. Professional Nerd. Geek.

Girl I ain't buildin no greenhouse. I need space for the gardens and possibly an above ground pool (next year) if we use the one we're setting up this summer enough. AND the dogs need room to run and poop.

Warning: Blackberry bushes are extremely evasive... take it out the ground and put that bitch in a container!
It will take ova... the bees will love it though.
question... has anyone planted mint from seed? I planted spearamint seeds in a pot in my house and I want to know how long they take to sprout.
Oh I also planted stevia seeds also... nothing yet, its been a like what 4 days?
can't plant outdoors until a few more weeks... zone 6 blues.
