I finally have my own little space in the backyard so I'm going to try to grow some herbs this year. If it ever warms up. Stupid weather.

I covered the bed and all was well.
Now the next thing I need to do is put a bit of low wire fencing around the beds (low enough for me to reach over and work ) to keep the dogs out since Bogart left four huge dents in the dirt. I don't want to fix the dents yet because miraculously the seedlings seemed to make it so I'm gonna wait till they grow sturdier. No sooner did I get Bo-tard out of the one bed when I look over and Lola Bitch is standin right in the middle of the other (which right now is empty thank gawd).

They have their own side of the yard but even with someone looking over them, when they get to running after each other it's inevitable they'll end up in my plants. And then I will have to kill them.

I grew up on a farm and we always planted so many veggies, flowers, and trees. I love to garden. I've grown herbs, all types of veggies, houseplants, cacti...the only things I have problems with are rubber plants and jade plants. I can keep them for a while but they always die on me.

I even tried a bonsai tree but it only lasted about a year. I didn't try that again. What's the trick?

In the backyard at my last apartment in Chicago I grew morning glorys (I love them along a fence), tomatoes, bell peppers, marigolds, sunflowers, pansies...I like spring bulb flowers too. I planted iris', daffodils, and tulips. I sometimes force them in the frig and bring them out to bloom in winter. They counteract the depression of Chicago winters.

This made me chuckle a little bit. My dog eats the tomatoes right off the plants and tries to dig up the potatoes. My cat has been trying to hump some of my seeds that I have to plant. I think he has a thing for corn

Bogart (both but especially him) LOVESSSS tomatoes. I could be cutting a number of things in the kitchen and he'll be downstairs. The second I cut a tomato hes right next to me waiting for a slice.

I would dig a gardening thread of good quality, with roots based in passion for earth, rain, sun and nature..

Since we farm too, hubby's been getting the tractor's ready on his days off. He's going to plant "our" corn on the edges of the fields so that gives me reason to go get more garden plants!!!!!!!
