John, they're calling for snow in our area Saturday night and part of Sunday. Cover your seedlings with those little cheap styrofoam cups or some type of insulating fabric.

We had snow on Thursday and it's been cold ever since.

I finally have my own little space in the backyard so I'm going to try to grow some herbs this year. If it ever warms up. Stupid weather.

we have a little area in our entrance way here at work...doorway is all glass and we have 2 planters in there, it's always so warm in there and the plants do well. Maybe I'll fill the planters with herbs.

I covered the bed and all was well.
They have their own side of the yard but even with someone looking over them, when they get to running after each other it's inevitable they'll end up in my plants. And then I will have to kill them. [Edited 3/28/11 15:49pm]

I grew up on a farm and we always planted so many veggies, flowers, and trees. I love to garden. I've grown herbs, all types of veggies, houseplants, cacti...the only things I have problems with are rubber plants and jade plants. I can keep them for a while but they always die on me. I even tried a bonsai tree but it only lasted about a year. I didn't try that again. What's the trick?
In the backyard at my last apartment in Chicago I grew morning glorys (I love them along a fence), tomatoes, bell peppers, marigolds, sunflowers, pansies...I like spring bulb flowers too. I planted iris', daffodils, and tulips. I sometimes force them in the frig and bring them out to bloom in winter. They counteract the depression of Chicago winters.
My flowers...some of them

This made me chuckle a little bit. My dog eats the tomatoes right off the plants and tries to dig up the potatoes. My cat has been trying to hump some of my seeds that I have to plant. I think he has a thing for corn [Edited 3/28/11 17:04pm]

Bogart (both but especially him) LOVESSSS tomatoes. I could be cutting a number of things in the kitchen and he'll be downstairs. The second I cut a tomato hes right next to me waiting for a slice.

Oddly enough every time a cork is popped Johnart is suddenly there right next to the person opening the bottle waiting for a glass full.

Ok, so speaking of the getting into my shit...While we were away Mike let them run on both sides of the yard and they ran into my beds. Meaning well and to fix damage he tells me on the phone..."I used a rake to even out the holes".
WHAT??? MY SEEEDLINGSSSSSSSSSS !!!
WTF knows what's gonna come up where now. Ah well, this is just the first batch.

oh no! BTW....we're supposed to get 6 to 12 inches of snow on friday. "not a fan" yeah...ok
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I'm not gonna stress over it. I'll see which make it and what comes up where. I will look at the bright side that a bunch of the seedlings I started indoors that I didn't think made it, are making a fashionably late entrance.
Fuck man, when are y'all done with snow??

Poor John. You need to set a surveillance camera to keep an eye on Mike. What with him not getting the hang of the alarm system, he might have gone traipsing through the tulips.

Since we farm too, hubby's been getting the tractor's ready on his days off. He's going to plant "our" corn on the edges of the fields so that gives me reason to go get more garden plants!!!!!!!
