You and me are in the same boat. Stillgotit is as well.

I live in an apartment, but I am lucky enough to have community gardens to plant in. I don't own a lick of land, but I still get a chance to play in the dirt. yay!

I even get to mess around in Still's yard too. Yes, I'm weird that way. lol

I can't wait to see y'alls gardens! woot!

I remember when we lived in the mountains in Northeast PA the summer came late and ended first. That sucks a little. I'm not planting in the ground (other than maybe some cooler crops like lettuce/broccoli) till probably next month or so. I have to check when our last frost is here in Northern VA.

oh...I thought you were in CT for some reason?

"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

Oh, I can't wait! If tomorrow is nice, I will be out in the yard dethatching my lawn. I don't start my seedlings until around May 1 because of the threat of frost. I plan to have different varieties of peppers, herbs (both edible and smokeable), tomatoes, and I might try some melons. One year I had volunteer melons that had sprouted from my compost. I had dumped cantaloupe rinds and seeds in it the summer before, and lo and behold, I had about 4 vines going in pots. The melons were small but oh so sweet.

I grow strictly in containers because my back yard is shady but my deck is above ground and gets eastern and southern sun most of the day.

John, that tiller can run away from you, so be careful! I helped my brother till his side yard. Guess who did most of the work while King of the Manor looked on. lol I didn't mind because I absolutely love doing it. I have a friendgirl who hires me every year to do her residence and rental property. Talk about good exercise and GOOD THERAPY! I zone right out while I do my gardening and become stress free and blissfully exhausted. cloud9

I love to garden. I didn't have much of a chance last year since I was sick. I've gotten some seeds started biggrin I have a quarter of an acre for a garden but we are increasing it to half an acre this weekend. The week of the 21st I will actually starting planting some early seeds. I also have a second garden that is smaller that will be for early plants this year. This year we are planting corn, potatoes, 5 kinds of tomato plants, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, kohlarabi, 4 kinds of squash, peppers, radishes, cucumbers, etc. We also have a small orchard with peach trees, apple trees, grapevines, and some berry plants. Once I figure out how to post pics, I will. With the cost of produce around here and the low quality of produce, I will be canning and freezing a lot this year. biggrin

I'm so jealous! I wish I had a house with a lot of land. I'd be a farmer fo sho! lol

I might not actually do the tiller thing now. Ordered a raised bed which should arrive any day. That will be the starting point. I can work the ground by hand before filling in the bed and take it bed by bed from that point. I don't wanna overwhelm myself by trying to do the entire side of the house in one shot (being that we also have to landscape out back and some in the front). So rather than till the whole thing I will do a combo of methods this first time.

I married my husband for his land..lol I'm so ready to start working in the garden/flower beds but it's just too wet right now. We've had so much snow and rain over the past few weeks. I was hoping it would dry out enough but no such luck.... My mom retired this past winter and is helping with the gardening. She is chomping at the bit too. I guess I got my love of working in the dirt from her biggrin

Why couldn't I have been as lucky? confused

lol @ "chomping at the bit" In my case, I got it from my dad. He taught and landscaped professionally, so it's in the blood.

I worked in the yard all day today. The raised bed I ordered from Ebay arrived yesterday and I was, of course, in a hurry to assemble it. How long do you think it takes me to assemble a simple rectangle (with instructions)? You really don't want to know the answer to that. Let's just say an un-trained monkey coulda put this bitch together faster than me. neutral

[img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/g3.jpg[/img:$uid]

After preparing the first bed I decided to keep the momentum going so we ran to Lowes and picked up a second, smaller, bed. I am officially a fan of Suncast raised bed kits. They are super simple to assemble. I was filling it in just minutes after opening the box. I will definitely add a few more next spring.

[img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/g2.jpg[/img:$uid]

[img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/g.jpg[/img:$uid]

I planted a few transplants (Romaine and Broccoli) and from seed some cool weather crops (radishes and spinach). I also put down some chard seeds. Not sure if too early (from one source yes, from another it's fine...we'll see) I saved some of the seeds for later in case.

Whose garden is thisssss??? martini

[img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/g1.jpg[/img:$uid]

Thank u, Shyra for the flag. hug

Today I tilled dirt and turned sod, filled in beds, did a few plantings, dug a small trench for drainage out back and even helped Ron put down new flooring in our sun room. It was a packed day and a great way to kick off the gardening season. Too tired (or lazy) to cook, we ended the day by filling our bellies with some Afghan take-out.

I'm covered in dirt and every inch of me hurts (in a good way). As soon as I finish uploading this post I'm taking a shower and then soaking in a hot bath. I love Spring!

I thought that looked familiar! Looks nice there. Hope the wind doesn't carry it away.

Okay, question number 1. How are you gonna keep the babies from digging in that nice soft dirt? I can see both of them now stretched out just as leisurely as they please! lol Hell, I expect Lola to be stretched out with a martini glass in her paw!

EXCELLENT question! lol

Actually, out fencing is being put in on Thurs. We will have privacy fencing around the whole yard, but they will reuse the exsisting chainlink to divide the yard into Doggytown and Don'tfuckwithmyshittown. So they will not be unsupervised on this side of the yard. In addition trainer is coming this weekend to start working with both dogs. We have to get Bogart's protecting the house and losin his damn mind at the window in check. I'm afraid he will bust through that front windo or the ones in the sunroom.

Looks great!! It was semi-decent here Sunday afternoon. I pulled out some hedges that I've hated for years on the side of my house. I was so proud of myself!! Going to plant spirea on the whole side of the house.
