Anyone going to Bonnaroo?

So I was invited to go to Bonnaroo this year.

Never heard of it, but The Black Keys and My Morning Jacket are playing, so I'm interested. Looks like a "Woodstock" type of thing.

confused ...BUT...I'm a forty year old hispanic "dad"-type who's never slept in a tent before (or done anything even remotely "carefree").

Anyone been to this thing before? What's the scene like? Anyone?

Have to admit that given my new outlook on life, I'm just about ready to buy the tickets.

But am I too square for this sort of thing?

shrug

i've been...

it's awesome.

there will be all types of people there, but mostly kids for their summer vacay. but, much to my surprise, everybody is extremely respectful and concientious of your personal space.

it will be very crowded. it will likely be very hot. there is next to no shade, so take an umbrella.

the camping is crowded, but it doesn't matter, cuz there's always a band to see...your campsite will be seperate from the venues, so you'll have a walk between if you want to visit you campsite during the day...the only thing they'll allow you to take in to the venue is water (although they usually are pretty relaxed if you want to pack in some sandwiches and what-not).

drugs are everywhere and readily available, if you're into that.

you should go...you'll enjoy the bands that you love, discover new bands, see more pretty girls than you can handle...it's an excellent time.

there're alot of good acts this year...

black keys, black angels, black uhuru, black joe lewis, band of skulls, band of joy, bootsy, g. love and special sauce, bela fleck, allen toussaint, buffalo springfield, ray lamontagne, daniel lanois, henry rollins, mumford and sons, etc., etc...

man, there are only a handful of bands i wouldn't want to see...that's another down-side; when 2 of your favorite acts are playing at the same time.

you should definitely go...there's no way you won't have a good time.

The lineup this year is killer, however the heat would be way too much for me. Hot tent, no shower or toilet = very unhappy Carrie.

I've never even slept in a tent before, so yeah it's something to consider.

eek

I would go if I were you!

Don't be a pussy over the camping stuf. Just get the right gear.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

So the person that suggested that we go to this thing has borrowed a tent.

We're supposed to talk later today about buying tickets.

eek My God...am I really doing this?! disbelief

go for it!

remember, it's gonna be hot as balls! dress appropriately. i recommend an umbrella; if not, at least a wide brimmed hat. you'll be chasing shade all day. take one of those portable canopies for your campsite if you can get ahold of one. and a chair for each person.

there will likely be alot of mud. sensible shoes.

frisbee, football...there will be plenty of downtime.

meet some people...some of the friendliest (stonedest?) people i've ever met were at bonnaroo.

there's plenty of good food there to purchase, but i would just pack a cooler with plenty of fruits and sandwich type stuff. maybe a small grill if you're feeling ambitious.

drugs are plentiful, but i'd be careful.

above all, have fun! you'd be hard pressed not to, i think.

Thanks for the advice! I have to see if it's as serious an offer as it sounds.

Getting psyched to go though! nod

Mach, I've never done anything like this. That's why I'm hesitant.

But if my friend is serious about it, I'll definitely do it. The heat, tent, and lack of shower makes me nervous...but at this point in my life I'm more inclined to just say F#CK IT and go!

nod

...oh yeah, and I need to buy a camera.
