Its winter.. so in the spring I will do a few herbs in the window box... easy access. Plus I live in an apartment, the larger plantings are done in the community garden that won't be up until next year since there is a new building being put up near the old site were the 1st commnunity garden was.We currently have only two... will have 4 once all construction is completed. excited

In the window boxes I will put, spearmint, lavender (for cooking), oregano, thyme (in the dryer sunny window) the other might only be strawberries, dill, lemon grass and cilantro....I also may do a planter box of blueberries.

the community veggie garden is usually eggplant, strawberries, grape and plum tomato, squash, watermelon and concord grapes (new vine to be planted next to an older champagne grapes vine that was damaged due to storms)

mint, bell peppers, zucchini, sunflowers and collards are also a staple there every year. We also collect the hips from the rosebushes.

The newer site will be huge and add two more gardens we can collectively plant in, I plan to place in a hazelnut tree and maybe a peeling bark maple..... and hopefully a weeping willow depending on zoning by-law, if they will allow it, if not then a cork tree will go up along with various perennial grasses and shrubbery to spot the areas to create sitting spaces and flower plots. biggrin

I have my neighbors in my building freely picking the leaves/getting clippings from the plants like I do. Its a perk of living in my building, my neighbors enjoy it.

The rest is perennial flowers... those are my favorites to plant and grow... will be trying new plants this year...

the bat flower, wax flowers, the escargot begonia, the Christmas begonia, checkered lilies, corkscrew grass and the cactus orchard... I hope they grow well. pray

a community garden sounds very cool, sharing and getting to know your neighbours in an environment where you grow things together is brilliant wink
