The Nicholas Brothers' famous routine from Stormy Weather and other great dance performances When my mom realized I enjoyed dancing when I was younger, she practically educated me on the dancers of the past. I grew up with James Brown, MJ, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr., and The Nicholas Brothers as some of my heroes
I've seen this performance several times but it STILL amazes me. This guys were LEGENDARY

Awesome! The spins the brother on the left made at 1:14 of the first clip are incredible. And the finish - ouch, my groin hurst just watching that!

Those are great!
I love Fred's routines with Ginger. They had an unbelievable chemistry, and Bill Robinson is sooo underrated. He's never really gotten his due "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

today's generation is missing out on alot. Fred Astaire is just one of my favorite performers. there's a really cool cd called "fred astaire sings" on verve records that's just so cool to listen to. did you know that Bill Robinson didn't use his heels when he danced?..he just used his toes, which made him unique

They really are, that's why I appreciate my mother teaching me about the legends. She's a huge fan of movies from the 30s and 40s so she had me watch movies like Stormy Weather at a very early age "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I remember posting it in here last year. I also posted in OKP and folks got all bent outta shape about Earl looking "gay" which he was, like it made any damn difference.

well, the brotha is wearing satin pants.....
I had to search through your posts to find the post. Those are ones I enjoy reading! unfortunately, I wasn't really visiting OKP that month
and @ Dr. Claw with the straight outta Bombay comment
I can see a bit of James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Michael J, and even some Bob Fosse in this video "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I swear, the minute he said that, the coconut oil mental smell hit me in the nostrils.
And they damn near dragged me for filth because of my Libya thread U mofos don't take newbies easily, and it was a mistake coming in with a Prince avatar, I had to change the damn thing to cut the Prince-y jokes

have you been in the Lesson? it's like a former Orger retreat sometimes "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Thats where I got the hackling.
One said flatly that he thought I was just another "annoying, arrogant orger" at first impression
Our image needs a heap load of shaping up to do, I sweah
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Really? I would expect that from GD, but the Lesson? a lot of those guys are hanging on Prince's nuts by their jaws
but looking at some orgers' opinions on hip hop here, I see why they have that feeling
The Org doesn't have a really good image but it looks like you've settled in there. Now you can read the mistermaxx unfiltered! "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well, he said it once he really knew what time it is and the fact that I didn't fit the profile
Oh yeah the GD crew is tough. But I'm getting the hangs of it, and the mixtapes? Doooooooll

Freakin' amazing.
I've always been in total awe of great dancers.
I'm hopelessly uncoordinated.

Fred Astaire in Royal Wedding (start about a minute in)...
Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse in Singin' in the Rain...
Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron in An American in Paris (music by George Gershwin)...

Fred and Ginger again - this time on rollerskates. And not good, modern skates, either. The old-fashioned kind with metal wheels, that you clamped onto your own shoes using a skate key.
