We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I was so pleased cloud9

I think she's pretty but never really think of her as sexy. That was some sexy (but still classy) harrrrr.

Best Animated Short Film - The Lost Thing

Best Live Action Short Film - God of Love

The Lost Thing was okay. My pick would have been Madagascar Carnet de Voyage.

God of Love winning was a surprise to me. Although very funny, I thought it was the weakest of all the nominees. Director and star Luke Matheny (below right) at least gave an entertaining acceptance speech. He sat behind me at the screening of the short films I attended here in NY. lol

A FEW RANDOM OSCAR FASHION NOTES

I was waiting in anticipation! While watching last night, I thought, "I KNOW John is gonna have some pearls ready for us in the monin! lol What did you think of Jennifer Hudson's dress and new look?

Oh, OK. I hadn't started reading from the top. Yeah, I think Jennifer took a little too much from her boobs. You know she must have had a bood reduction for them to shrink to more than half their original size.

A FEW RANDOM OSCAR FASHION NOTES

Greatness John!

Here are some random thoughts from me about the awards in general.

The good/acceptable

1 - Colin Firth and Natalie Portman winning were fine by me. (Especially Portman)

2 - I am DYING to see The Inside job (documentary) so I am glad to see it win. I loved the winning director’s candid 12 second speech about no one going to jail yet.

The bad

1 - Hooper for best director on King’s Speech – Not sure how this film represents a special achievement in direction. It’s a pretty easy tale to tell and doesn’t require much guidance/direction to my mind. All of the actors were great. The story was straight forward and nothing special. Whatever.

2 - Julianne Moore not even getting nominated for Kids Are Alright was beyond stupid. She deserved it over Benning.

3 - Jeremy Renner’s nomination for the Town – Why would Heat Part two have ANY nominations?

The utterly ridiculous

1 - The King’s Speech winning for best picture is just downright silly. It was a simple little feel good movie. I watched it and enjoyed it but wasn’t riveted. How could anyone be? Best picture?

2 - Best Song – Randy Newman

Come on folks. My dog Charlie could write that in his sleep. Holy mail it in award.

3 - Cinematography – Inception

Huh? How did Black Swan not win this award? Inception didn’t have great cinematography – it had great special effects.

Random thoughts

1 - Haven’t seen the Fighter so I can’t comment on supporting. I did think Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bohnam Carter were fantastic .

2 - Nominations make me want to see Winter’s Bone. Somehow I hadn't even heard of it before last night.

3 - The Kirk Douglas segment was quite charming

Trick Question:

Who was more strokey? Kirk Douglas or Randy Newman??

Yeah - the Randy Newman award speech was weird. I thought it was pretty bold of him to sayanything at all considering what a shitty song he won the award for in the first place.

Hey my friend

I haven't. And the movie dealt with it honorably.

I have (still do really) so perhaps that's why I found the film riveting. I would have chosen The Social Network as best picture myself, but I'm not disappointed with The King's Speech winning.

That makes sense. I suppose a best picture movie might have been in there somewhere, but the movie on the whole didn't make me leave the theatre "feeling" anything. The acting was good, but the story on the whole didn't fascinate me. I just left saying, "oh that was enjoyable - but not special by any stretch".

I 100% agree on the Social Network. So many people think "oh it's just a movie about Facebook - why bother". I hate facebook but think the movie (and directing) were outstanding.

For me, Black Swan or Social Network should have been the winner/runner up.

Have you seen Winter's Bone? I don't really know anything about it and would be curious to get your take.

I don't actually think this one looks horrible. But I can see why you might. Looks better than, say, Jennifer Hudson who had a more simple dress but was flaunting deflated boobies.

Winter's Bone was an excellent film as well. Very dark and intense. The only best pic nominees I liked more were The Social Network, The King's Speech and Toy Story 3.

But I still hate the yellow beading. hmph! I think it might be a really stunning accent if it were a rich blue or black velvet.

highfive

I think it caught my attention most because it actually was a design rather than being another pretty dress.

it had a vintage look to it. i thought it looked like a picture frame and her boob area could have had a picture of someone in it
