It really helps a lot. If you don't keep it off, people right away want to start talking your ear off, when they noticed that you've logged onto Facebook.

You are so right I had this lady on there that I knew as a kid and she is still caught up in the old days and as soon as I would log in she would want to talk Also, I just got tired of seeing folks on there from high school-You know the one's who never talked to you then, but want to be you FB friend now Like you like their ass like that

It would always be the person you'd most NOT want to talk to that would come popping up on that shit, lol. I went for months initially not knowing that you actually COULD turn that thing off, lol.

I wouldn't say that I "filter" posts, but I try not to get too political or confrontational - mainly because of the assholery other people engage in. I just don't want other friends to see that sort of thing.

Here's my dilemma with Facebook. Having been around for a few decades (but nowhere near retirement), I have grown to love facebook and social networking.
Here's the problem, the friends I have in my life are in my life for a reason. Then there are people that are just acquaintances that I met either in school or work, or from my friends. I have added a lot of folks. I didn’t realize I was that well know in my little circle. There are also close friends that I have, that can’t stand each other, but we’re cool. In life, I can separate the two, facebook you cannot.
I find myself filtering my posts because my worlds have collided in facebook. And don’t get me started with the (younger and older) family members I have added. I have a thought, a music post or a topic that I would like to share with “my friends” but I don’t dare to because there are some folks that won’t get it and I don’t feel like explaining. It's easy when your 16-18, because you are just figuring things out. The worse part of that statement, these younger folks are keeping a journal of thier life that will be recorded forever and they have no filters!!
I guess it’s really NONE OF THEIR DAMN BUSINESS to begin with.
In hindsight, I wish I would have kept facebook to just my absolute closest friends and I’m able to speak freely.

Forget about friends & family members, you need to be sure that the CIA in the USA are not all in your business. After all, they are the co-owners of Facebook!

I dont have a facebook account because i could really give a shit about a good recipe or someones brat getting braces. I stay on Myspace because i keep it adult and can share rated R rantings and perceptions. Even as an adult i dont want my mom on Myspace.

There's a point in your life when you shouldn't give a crap what people think and your opinions should be seen and heard. I don't bite my tongue in RL so why should I online?
