Anybody live / lived in Hawaii?

What is it like out there?

Always wanted to go..hell it seems like I'd like to live and die out there...so sick of the blizzards, the weather in Minnesota..I just cant do this...Im ready for the beaches.

What do you think?

I've only visited Honolulu on Oahu and Maui. Tropical humid weather.

Roaches. Seen a few in my 5 star hotel and a few restaurants.

It's laid back. Nice weather.

I think the cost of living would be high. Major income is from tourism.

Hotels and properties owned by foreigners.

Never lived there, but one time, when I was sick of winter I wanted to move someplace where the average temp was 65C, don't ask me why, and the first place that came up was Hawaii.

The worst weather is in Jan and Feb according to research, not actual experience.

Cost of living is sky high. We do have a friend there that has told us that. It's like you live in paradise, but have to work TONS to afford it.

I'd like to try. lol

Roaches? High rent? Chiile.... Maybe a vacation and see what it is all about. This Minnesota below zeros and 10 inches of snow thing is not cutting it anymore.

You are better off going to California. The weather is drier and you still get the nice beaches, palm trees, chic restaurants, bars. Obviously you should avoid certain sections..um.

Cali is great.

Maytiana

It's hard to give advice to someone who is from elsewhere because I have not bee through what you will. I don't know anyone who isn't family or locals since I've lived in the same neighborhood forever.

DIg If you Will...my advice.

- Don't be freinds with tourists. They don't know anything.

-go to cultural festivals

- I can tell you that most people I know speak japanese or spanish or english but not Hawaiian. I can't either we just speak like slang sometimes, though. But everyone I know KNOWS english.

- Street names are special so don't mispronounce them

-special holidays..woop woop!

Maytiana, I really enjoyed O'ahu when I was there. The fresh tropical fruit is to die for, and it's a gorgeous place with beautiful weather and even more beautiful people. But I have to ask: Do you ever get island fever? I think I'd go nuts after a while from being isolated in the middle of the Pacific! shake
