The Cartoon Network has released a trailer for the new Thundercats cartoon series, which is set to debut later this year.

The new series updates the classic 1980s Saturday morning Thundercats cartoon, which was produced by Rankin/Bass, and was a staple of kids’ TV programming from 1985-1990.

In addition to lots of toys, the original Thundercats cartoon spawned a Thundercats comic book series from Marvel that lasted from 1985-1988, and inspired subsequent comic book series from Wildstorm that debuted in 2003 during the height of the 1980s revival.

Me and my sister used to get up early to watch this every Saturday morning. I wanted to be Cheetara.

Thought that was going to be awful but it actually looked pretty good!...apart from Liono looking too young.

How about an update of The Raccoons next?

Didn't the co-creator just die only about six months ago?

They didn't waste time making a new one unless this was already on the cards before that.

I also read he died fairly broke, barely having enough money to support his child.

Stephen Perry, the guy whom you're talking about, wrote for the show.

Several media outlets mistakenly stated that he co-created the series. According to the police, cancer treatment drained his finances. He was murdered by a roommate who thought he'd received an unexpected infusion of money.

I feel so old, lol. I can remember screaming "thunder, thunder, thundercats, hooooooooo!!" with my dad as a little girl. (Hell, we still do that and he's 58. I'm 25! ) I hope they didn't screw up 'cause a lot of old-school fans will be watching!

Well all of The Thundercats were naked in that episode, but we're talking about Cheetara.

I was more partial to the "ancient spirits of evil..." Mumra bit myself!! Loved the Thundertank to...wished they'd made a real life version of that bad boy!!
