What age is considered mid-life?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I'll be 40 in May, I'm about to hit mine....
Change is good. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
not really an age, but a time when you think "shit, I'm getting old" you know, no photos of you are presentable unless nicely retouched, etc LOL
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well crap I always hated my pictures.

No, hasn't hit yet.
Close though....real, real close... By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Mine is starting to hit me now. (I'm 36) I am in the process of planning a "life break." It's kind of like a temporary retirement or maybe more like the people who take "a year off" when they finish college.
I'm quitting my job this summer and going to live in Argentina. And will do absolutely nothing until my money runs out. I'm planning on 1 - 5 years abroad.
Maybe I'll learn the tango!

I have heard good things about Argentina. It is like the Paris of South America. I was planning a trip for the New Years, but things didn't work out.

Dumbass. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I'm having mine right now - turned 50 in late January. Still trying to get over this funk I'm in.

I think you mean Buenos Aires it has nice buildings, but you will find the economy somewhat different there. A HUGE gap between the haves and have nots.
My husband is Argentinian and I have nothing but love for the people, just know that desperate times call for desperate measures - my husband has said to me since 2001, we are not bringing the kids there again, it's not a safe place.
I don't want to rain on your parade CallMeCarrie, just stay safe hopefully you speak spanish and have family there.
Where are you planning on living? Mar Del Plata is lovely in the summer time, definitely go there, visit Iguazu , Mendoza is also quite nice.

Thanks for the info! I have friends in Buenos Aires and Mendoza. I'd love to find some Argentine orgers! I'm planning on staying mostly in BA, but will travel around South America, when possible.
I was in Argentina and Brazil in September and had a chance to see Iguazu. It is truly a stunning place! I'll put Mar Del Plata on my "must see" list.
Of course I'll do what I can to stay safe. Like most places, dangerous people can find you anywhere, but a little common sense can keep you out of a good bit of trouble.
My Spanish is a work in progress. Living in Texas I know a good bit of (Mexican) Spanish, but I discovered that Argentina and especially BA have their own version of the language and funny enough they pretend not to understand unless it is spoken their way.
Where is your husband from? Does he still have family there? And most importantly...has he taught you to tango? Such beautiful music and a passionate dance!

Bought myself a 2.5 V6 car and drive the shit out of it! Love leaving those speedboy racers standing!!!! "I may not agree with what you say but I'll fight for your right to say it"
Be proud of who you are not what they want you to be...

I just told an orger the other day I'm pretty sure Iguazu is where god lives.
no worries! I forgot to add Cordoba! A lot of my husbands family have moved from BA to Cordoba to get away from escalating crime rates and corruption (an example, someone on the town council took a collection from all the people living in my husband's auntie's street to raise funds to build a curb on their street, since every time it rained the street turned to a river of mud. That guy took off with all the money and THAT is exactly what happens all the time! Nobody can do much about it)
Also, when pulled over by the cops beware, they are basically wanting a bribe - they are badly paid and take advantage of their authority. I was in the car with my husbands uncle and we got pulled over, cop looks in the window, "good afternoon, hope there isn't a problem" says the uncle and slips him a 20, and the cop says "have a good day!" and waved us away!
if you say the 'y' sound, like in yelp, as "sh" (like shelp lol) you will be fine! I think their spanish is kind of lazy compared to real castellano but don't ever tell them that they don't bother much with the "th" sound at all either actually!
Apart from his parents and sister, ALL his family are still back home :home: and as for the tango, his parents can sort of do it, but not him

Mostly I've just started to worry that I'm never gonna get out of my monkey-could-do-this job.
And I bought a gun, a Jeep, and a survival knife/flint kit, even though the last time I was in the wilderness was..never.

Ex-Moderator | I think I’m about to.
I’m seriously re-evalutating my working life and what I do and don’t want to do. I expect to have a major career change in the next year or two, I just have to make a plan to do it.
I want to run away and join the circus. Or drop out of everything, study yoga for a year in some remote place in India and come back home and teach yoga classes and meditation. Or open up my own coffee shop/wine bar and spend my days making yummy soup from scratch and the perfect latte. Or… I don’t know yet. |

I was thinking of getting a temporary tattoo yesterday

Actually, I'm shocked to find myself looking at tats and kind'a wanting one myself. Could that be a sign of the onset of a mid-life crisis?
