Shit yes, you're right. I talk about people being to fcking
thick to get the plot, and yet I can't even get the name of
one of the actors right! haha. I'm such a monkey.

Vanilla Sky was based on the movie "Abre Los Ojos" that was written by the same man who wrote "The Others".

I saw "Abre Los Ojos" before they made "Vanilla Sky" and thought it was terrific.

I refuse to ruin my great experience with the Spanish version by seeing "Vanilla Sky", no matter how many people tell me how great it is. Plus the guy who had the lead in the Spanish version was way better looking than smarmy Tom.

I haven't watched "Abre Los Ojos" yet, but I have heard it was better than "Vanilla Sky".

Anyone is better looking than Tom. wink

Ugh... stop it!

That was a good movie and yes, he did do a fine job in that movie, I will give him that. Maybe that's because everything wasn't always focused on him.

Now stop!

Okay, I saw Vanilla Sky, and my problem with it was I thought it pandered waaayyy too much to the dumb fucks in the audience. I really hated that damned "Basil Exposition" style character who showed up at the end to explain the movie for all the twits who were too dim to follow a complex plot. What gets me is how many people STILL couldn't figure out what was going on after THE WHOLE FRIGGIN THING WAS EXPLAINED TO THEM!!! It really ruined an otherwise excellent film for me.

As for Tom Cruise, I feel he is neither as great an actor as his fans think, nor as bad as his detractors believe him to be. As far as sheer ability, he is a competent actor. When he has good material, and a good director, he can really shine (see Interview With The Vampire, Magnolia), but if he doesn't, then his performaces are mediocre at best (see Top Gun, Far And Away). The problem is that he is frequently put into roles because of his looks, or his star power, and not on his appropriateness in playing the part. This is quite often the case in Hollywood, which is far more concerned with making $ than it is with making a decent film.

I like Tom Cruise. I have enjoyed his performances for the most part. The only time I didn't like him is early in his career with movies like Top Gun, Days of Thunder, and Cocktail (although Risky Business rocked!). He was a pompass ass in all those flicks.

However ever since he was in Interview With A Vampire (which he nailed), I think his movies and performances have been very good. He makes different flicks...and tries to stretch his talent. I admire that. Since Jerry Maguire I have liked every one of his movies since (even Eyes Wide Shut...but mainly for Kidmans performance rather than Cruises). Also he's had Nicole Kidman AND Penelope Cruz...fuckin LUCKY guy.

It's funny how people just HATE the guy...I have never been able to figure that out. People either like or HATE him (same as another performer we know).

As for Minority Report...2 thumbs up.

I loved when Tom screamed for Tech Support... "TECH SUPPOOORT!" at the end. big grin

And, I have found many people who still didn't understand the movie either... which puzzled me. Like you said, it was explained at the end!
