It's not true smile Oracene Price (her mother) was asked about it a few weeks ago on twitter and said it wasn't true. Also a couple of days ago Serena tweeted this: http://www.twitlonger.com/show/8rru48 After the whole incident last July, she was actually training to play again in late October but then her foot got messed up again (either she trained too hard too soon or the surgery didn't come out right) so that's what set her back to having another operation and wearing the boot again confused

She's trying to play Fed Cup in the spring so I think she'll be back soon people biggrin

Still a long time for a boot and I sure wouldn't expect them to be forthcoming about info. Athletes lie about the extent of their injuries all the time. shrug

It wouldn't surprise me if she had a bone infection at some point, but the way she's been out and about partying and making appearances during her time in the boot, I really doubt that she came close to losing her leg. I mean if it was that serious I don't think she'd want to take any chances going out like that...

True, but I think the word is she's still undergoing treatment with the antibiotics. The stuff I've read says that if all the antibiotics fail THEN amputation is considered to prevent the infection from spreading. Maybe she's not at that point yet. hmmm

Now let's go to our medical correspondent, NBJ for some insight . . . lol

It could actually work both ways.

Serious infections and foot problems can both take a really long time to completely heal. Foot injuries to the bone are tricky because the bones are so small and you put so much weight on them.

As for infections, we had this one dude at work. He had surgery to remove his appendix. Got an infection and had to have a drain. Gross yeah...wait for it...he got well enough to return to his job at the front desk where he would empty his drain into the garbage can RIGHT THERE AT THE DESK WHERE HE AND 2 OTHER PEOPLE WORKED!

NASTY!!!

I told my boss, "Damn! He could go into the bathroom for that! It's disgusting and could make them all sick!!"

Anyways, Serena could go out with an infection. She could go out with an injured foot.

I figure, once it's all resolved, however it ends up being resolved, she'll go on some show and discuss it and then maybe we'll know what really happened.

Serena Williams, and the beautiful specimen that is actor Boris Kodjoe, were spotted in Dallas last night enjoying the Super Bowl Festivities. Unfortunately, Serena is still suffering from a foot injury that she obtained last Summer while in Germany. According to the Seattle Times, she is scheduled to play in an exhibition match in Oregon on March 8th but it’s a possibility she will not participate. She hasn’t played in a competitive match since winning Wimbledon in July.

She could still get it, bone disease and all. wink

Barry Bonds had a lot of problems with a staph infection. Supposedly steroids lower your body's ability to fight off infection.

Not saying anything (before everyone goes apeshit on me) other than smoke keeps appearing around the same people....

lol That's exactly what you're doing though, or else why even bring it up?

Has there been other stuff that might implicate Serena where steroids are concerned? I'm totally ignorant of these things.

[Edited 2/17/11 14:31pm]

Serena has been huge and ripped since she won her first US Open when she was 17. They are extensively, randomly drug tested and there's been nothing. Asshole media and commentators love to talk shit about her.

To be honest I thought her cut foot was just an excuse to get out of playing some compulsory tournaments, (she has had a history of 'illnesses' and cancellations throughout her career to get out of lower tier events) but skipping a couple of slams is worrisome. The way she's looking with her boot, she'll be lucky if she'll be ok for the French in May sad

Absolutely don't believe she'll lose her leg.

Wow, did you really use a picture of a gorilla to compare to a Black person?eek

Yeah, I work in the medical profession, but never developed the stomach for drainage type fluids, so when I saw him do that I was ill It was DIS-GUSTING!!!

I was a total big, whiny baby about it and went straight to the boss to put a stop to that shit immediately.

YUCK!!!

comfort You weren't being a whiny baby about it; you did the right thing. I would have talked to my boss about it too. There are certain things that you just do not do in a public setting, and that is one of them.

rolleyes Calm down, it's a reference to JerseyKRS talking about people going 'apeshit' on him. I did bold that part of his reply, thought it was obvious. Guess not. If I'm comparing that pic to anyone, it's me (playfully)

Then it's both a bad choice and certainly a bad choice of timing.
