NBA Dunk Contest Did anyone watch the NBA Dunk contest? I thought it was GREAT. Blake Griffin is going 2 injure himself one of these days. This guy scares me on how hard he goes at his dunks.
Amazing is a word I don't used often in in regards 2 sports but this guy is that and more.

Charles Barkley said it was all flash. He said his dunk was like bringing a pretty girl home - if she's dumb it don't count. HA!!!!
But I wouldn't jump over a car so more power to him. The Kia sponsors were happy about it too.

It was an easy dunk and not very impressive on its own merit minus the showmanship aspect.
I was like, "All that set up, for THAT?"
He's still a beast tho. | |

True but the showmanship is what gets VOTES.

Not denying that, just saying that the set up was kinda wack and so was the dunk.
It plays different on TV tho where you get different angles and the commentators hyping it up. But when you're sitting there the setup is boring and neverending, so when you FINALLY get a dunk it better be off da chain. Blake's was just aight.

Every year I just watch to see what pimp suit Craig Sager will wear and what gems will Charles Barkley drop on us!

The dunk contest lost its allure to me about 15 years ago.
Honestly, what is so special about a dunk? ANY dunk? There's nothing that hasn't been done already, and done probably 35 years ago by Dr. J or Dominique Wilkins.
I have no idea why any dunk is ever an ESPN Top Ten Play.

As opposed 2 a homerun? A TD catch? Dumb ass nonsport golf? Can u dunk?

Well, as a 6' white guy who COULD dunk until about the age of 35 (had a 32" vertical, which was pretty good in 1977), no - I am not impressed with 6' 9" guys throwing it down.
But it's cool when a short guy like Spud Webb throws it down.

Which reminds me - if I was emperor for a day, I'd do two things:
1. Get rid of the 3-point line. Worst offensive gimmick ever; and 2. Play a couple games each year with no clock. First team to 100 wins; quarters are over at 25-point intervals.
Number 2 is, admittedly, a gimmick and not as needed now as it was five or six years ago, but it would be neat to see a couple games played that way.

I'd rather watch that the other sports boring all-star events.

I liked the dunk contest, it was certainly an improvement over last years. Blake Griffin's dunk over the car was gimmicky but fun nonetheless.

Yeah, good point. I almost always find myself rathered unimpressed when a baseball play makes the highlight reel. Same with golf, simply because even the toughest shots take little athleticism, especially when compared to the other sports.
A lot of those TD catches though are pretty damn impressive.

The only all-star game that I think is worth watching is baseball's. And that means only the game. Couldn't care less about the home run contest or the celebrity softball disaster.
I went to the All Star Game in Houston a few years ago. It was great.

The slam dunk contest was booooooooring! Vince Carter was the last of the great dunker. When they brought out the car, me & the fellas were like, Oh SHIT! IT'S ON! Only to be disappointed. I thought Griffin was going to jump over the roof of the car. Not over the DAMN HOOD! WoW! A plain simple dunk over a front bumper. The bar is set so low we get excited when they get the ball in the basket on the 1st try. Reason for the side show act is because there's no talent. Thats why they need fireworks, showgirls, costumes, midgets, & cars, to distract us from those weak ass dunks. I remember a time when the only thing that was required was SKILL! Something these fellas had.
OOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!!! IN YOUR FACE!!!

I´m not really following basketball anymore the way I used to in the mid to late 80s but back then, this guy really impressed me, especially considering his size.

And of course people like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Dr.J, and later Michael Jordan....but Spudd Webb was the shortest slam dunk champion ever. And I admire the fact that he, despite all the obstacles and the poverty in his childhood and teenage years, still managed to rise to the top, literally.
From Wiki:
NBA Slam Dunk ContestWebb was the shortest person to compete in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, winning the event in 1986. His participation surprised the media; including his teammate and defending dunk champion Dominique Wilkins, who had "never seen me dunk before," Webb said. His dunks included the elevator two-handed double pump dunk, the one-handed off the backboard one-handed jam, a 360-degree helicopter one-handed dunk, a 180-degree reverse double-pump slam, and finally, the 180-degree reverse two-handed strawberry jam from a lob bounce off the floor. He defeated Wilkins with two perfect 150-point scores in the final round. Atlanta coach Mike Fratello said, "Spud kind of duped him. He told Wilkins he never had anything prepared, didn't practice for it. So, Wilkins maybe thought his normal assortment would be good enough to get through". Twenty years after Webb's victory in the Slam Dunk contest, he trained New York Knicks point guard Nate Robinson (who stands at 5 feet 9 inches tall) to win the event. Webb tossed the ball to Robinson, who leaped over Webb and dunked, earning 50 points from the judges. Robinson went on to win, making him, and Spud the only two people in basketball history under six feet to win a slam dunk contest. Webb was a judge for the 2010 Dunk contest in Dallas. It was the first time the event has been in Dallas since Webb's win in 1986. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
