Diana Ross' Son Is Doing Good With "Mooz-lum"

For an indie film about a not-so-pretty subject, it looks like its making a stride there.

I'm loving the ensemble and Evan is slowly but surely proving to be an actor to be keep an eye on.

It’s always good news when a good and worthy black film does well at the box office. So it was great news when it was announced earlier today, that Qasim Basir’s film Mooz-lum did better than expected at the box office this past weekend.

Opening in limited release in ten cities, on 11 AMC Theaterscreens, the film earned an excellent $12,712 per screen, making it one of the highest per screen averages in the country. That’s better than this weekend’s top two films, Just Go With It, and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, which averaged $8,601and $9,505 per screen respectfully.

Not surprisingly, the film will open in five more AMC theaters inColumbus Ohio, Elizabeth NJ, Minneapolis, Phoenix andSeattle, and adding another screen in Atlanta.

According to AMC: “the rate at which movie-goers packed the theaters to see Mooz-lum proved the film’s viral marketing approach – drawing heavily on Eventful Demand it!, Facebook and Twitter along with word-of-mouth promotion and targeted public relations – is working.”

I'm happy the movie is doing so well. It's about time there was more press on this subject.

time flies.

I knew about this when it was in the production stage, so much work and effort went into this..hope it gets a cinema release in London!!

I heard there are some very strong scenes that may hit some folks..interesting!

just the insults and also issues concerning Muslims from overseas (immigrants) using their type of methods when teaching children the qur'an..

what i like about this film is the portrayal and angle from the black american muslim view rather than the immigrant muslims view, especially pre and post 9/11.

It's not playing in my neck of the woods which is quite normal. It's in L.A. at one theatre I found, maybe it'll make it's way down this direction given its success. I wanna see it.
