Cooking

Do you like to cook, and better yet, do people think you can cook? It is amazing to me how many people actually can't cook, and by that I mean even make a box of mac 'n cheese.

What is your favorite dish to prepare?

I can cook very well... I grew up in my grandmother's restaurant and learned from her and my mom. I just recently started enjoying it again. My favorite thing to make is Lasagna and pretty much any mexican dish.

I like to cook, but I'm not that great yet. There are a few things I can make well, but now that I live alone, I don't cook as much as I used to. It's not as fun preparing meals for only one person. I make great eggs, fried rice, stir-fry, burritos, and I LOVE to make desserts. Nearly every pot-luck function I bring a dessert. Pink Lemonade ice cream cake, ginger-brandy cheesecake, trifles... yum!

That's one thing I can't get down yet... desserts. I try and fail each time. They taste good, but they don't always look the best when I am done with them. smile

The only desserts I can make well are apple pie and kolachies... if you count them as a dessert.

lol...Azure, I do love to cook as well... smile I am better at it when I have a recipe to follow tho... smile

I have a really good recipe for meatloaf that I like to make, and that I and others love to eat...or, so they tell me. smile It's a recipe I got from The Two Fat Ladies tv show on the Food Network, and I add my own little extras, and spices and seasonings...

...And, then I have another recipe for a very cheesy and meaty Lasagna that's lot of work to make, but fun, and it's so worth the effort...yum.

Meatloaf! You know what I do? I just put a bit of everything that I have in the refrigerator in it. Hot sauce, bbq sauce, salad dressing...whatever I have and it's always good! That has to be one of the quickest things to make... I really should make that sometime soon for the kids.

I used to be a Food Network junkie, but I always missed their show.

I enjoy it, but only when it's for a group of people. Cooking for yourself kinda sucks.

I got quite good at it working in a youth shelter for 5 years. I had to be able to cook anything on the menu and I never got any complaints. In fact, people would often make special requests for some of my better dishes. I must admit, I make some unbeatable breakfast food - omelettes, french toast, pancakes, etc. And I'm good at just about any Italian or Asian dishes. A lot of times I'd be cooking for 10 to 20 people and I say, the more the merrier. smile

I haven't watched the channel in a while now...but, it's time for me to try some new recipes...and, I've got the time now for a while to get into some very experimental cooking...I'm feeling like I can do it! biggrin

That meatloaf has ground beef, ground sausage, ground pork, ground turkey, and minced chicken liver as it's meat base...wow... smile

Do you cook together in the kitchen often? I think cooking together can be a wonderful experience that will lead to a hell of a lotta fun after you eat... heck, even while you are eating!

I am waiting to experience all of that there... evil

That's the most fun... trying new things... experimenting! I used to do all of my experimenting on Sunday... each meal would be an experiment. One of these days I'll get back into that.

Part of the last job that I had I wrote recipes for cookbooks in which I had to modify the recipes of mine to make them low-fat for people who were overweight. That was fun experimenting with those. I would make the recipes up and then modify them. Sometimes it took two or three tries to get it right with the subsitutions, but that's the fun of it! smile

I've never had a cherry cheese pancake, as I really don't like pancakes... but that sounds YUMMY!
