John, where are you with some dresses? You should be able to pick something out, you measured my body with your palms for chrissakes.

I do like the cut on some of what Genesia picked out. I'll look around for some styles on Mon, when my crazy family leaves and the screaming and hollarin has subsided. nuts

Do you have a short torso...or are you fairly proportionate torso/legs-wise?

If you don't have a short torso, two words - wrap dress.

highfive

I read the original post and thought 'two-words, wrap dress'. lol

I adore wrap dresses. And i'm short and curvy.

Google up images of Scarlett Johanson, Kim Kardashian and Salma Hayak, those three are very curvy and very short and almost always get it right. They often wear flesh colored shoes and if they wear a belt it is the same fabric and color as the dress they are wearing. The fabrics are often soft and cut on the bias so they flow over their body but don't hug grossly tight. Since they all have pretty racks like you they pay attention to the neckline. It is always flattering and shows a tad of cleavage but never too much. Look at pics of them and you get the idea of what works. Bright colors are o.k.but busy prints or tops that contrast with bottoms are going to be difficult for you.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

Sorry I'm late to the thread, Boo! I've been wanting to get at this one since yesterday but didn't have any time, but I was thinking about dresses all day smile.

You've let us in on the fact that your boobies and hips have now gone all SHA-ZAMM POWW!!!!

Okay, after that, I was thinking about other factors that influenced what I was looking at for you;

1. Your general dressing style/preferences based on the pics we've seen of you. You strike me as needing a little quirk in your ensembles, but they start with classic lines. You live in Florida, but though it's a state influenced by nightlife I don't see you in club wear at all. I see you appropriately rocking minis that don't scream "Wet Seal". I was looking at dresses in the way that in this phase of your life you're looking at food processors and kitchen knives. The shit has to embody functionality, personality, longevity and purpose all rolled into one sassy ass package.

2. Living in Florida, it's f**king hot. You need pieces that you're not going to swelter in.

Here's a start:

Hot fucking grown up riot-girrrl-ish mom with killer haircut in humid ass Florida choices:

DRESS WITH PLEATED SKIRT

DRESS WITH ZIP BACK

KIMONO-STYLE DRESS

PLEATED DRESS

DRESS WITH GATHERED SKIRT

(Not 100% sure that you'd like this print, but it could be a cute silhouette for your frame)

Printed high-neck dress chestnut brown print - Promod

NOW...

Classic occasion/event options:

Two-Tone Sheath Dress With Lace Bow Belt

TUBE DRESS

Just rip that freakin' bow off the shoulder and get the focus back on your new boobage, where it should be pimp2

Sleeveless Lace Sheath Dress

Strapless Stretch Satin Dress With Jeweled Belt

Then, since you mentioned you could entertain the idea of long sleeves, too, then maybe for cold weather-ish options...

Rosette-Trim Belted Control Dress by Shape fx®

That's alls I got for now. Hope something looks interesting out of these smile

Hey it's a cute dress and the only one of all the ones I posted that would probably not look aweful on me lol.

When I think of Punk Mistress, I'm picturing a wardrobe persona that's more a combination of

Character Shane McCutcheon from tv's cult hit favorite, "The L Word" (played by Kate Moennig)

mixed with a lil bit of

Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, who will wear dresses ranging from Riot Grrl gear to pleasant little Audrey Hepburn dresses, yet it always projects a certain attitude that lets you know she's wearing the dress and it doesn't wear her.

I see inspiration from these two, then with some classic lines thrown in here and there. I think the other dress might be a little bit too, well, clubby- Sort of something like something Kendra, Snooki or Jwoww would wear smile

You are spot-on with everything - where I'm at in terms of investing in clothing, my desired style (clean, classic lines with a bit of edge) and comfort level in terms of temperature and fabric.

Now where do I find these dresses?

lol

The price range is from about $39-$69, the most budget friendly pieces being from Newport News.

My jersey "bargain of the week" would be this "Shaper Dress" from Chadwicks, retailing for $19.99. They chose the wrong model for it though, it would have been nicer to see a curvier girl in it (like how they do it in Vicky-Secret).

I think it would look pretty good on a curvy frame, maybe hit your local seamstress to shorten it a bit if you want to show extra leg...Lord, why they put those white shoes I dunno but pretend like you don't see those lol

The other sleeveless printed mini with the wrap collar is from a French store called ProMod, but I just found out they don't have any stores in the US. You could order online but they tend to be too many price points above the H&M budget. I shop there regularly but only when stuff is on sale smile

Now for round 2, starting with lightinthebox.com:

$39.99

wholesale Long Sleeves Round Neck Fitted Shape Satin Belt Jersey Little Black Dress Women's Dresses(1801AL003-0737)

$29.99wholesale Short Sleeves Deep V Neckline Dress / Women's Dresses (FF-1801BD034-0736)

wholesale Special Chest Design Camisole Neckline Dress / Women's Dresses (FF-1802BD002-0811)

$34.99

and ending with a Happy Hour clearance from ZARA, clearance prices from $15.99-$19.99;

PLEATED DRESS

DRESS WITH ARMHOLE SEAMS FLARED SKIRT AND BELT

DRESS WITH PLEATED SKIRT

MILANO KNIT DRESS

and then there's this one...it's in the ZARA across the street from my house, but the top is a silk-like fabric (or hell it might actually be silk) then bottom half of this dress is a very thick knit. From actually touching it, I think it could very look good on the hips and boobs, but it might be a question of if you like that stiff, retro, 70's knit fabric on the bottom. But still, it's not too too bad for $15.99, and the dress would fly over pretty well when you have a special " special occasion/event" scenario. If you go on the website, they have close-up icon you can press to see the fabrics better.

I need help buying dresses and other clothes.

I've always been small and slim, but I'm a little heavier than I've ever been. My boobs and hips, which were kind of round before, are, uh, more round now.

I have a hard time buying dresses in particular. I feel like they either hug my curves too tight, or sit on me like a bag, hiding them.

Can any of you style mavens help me with designs that will be flattering and good places to look? (I'm on a H&M budget) Sexy is all good, but tasteful is what I feel like I'm missing. lol

headlp

Hey Erin.

I didn't know you were that small, Prince height? You don't look like it in your pictures. Boobs, hips and small, I've been looking up pics of Salma Hayek and this is what I think would fit you, nothing too long, nothing too short, mid height dresses/skirts, whenever possible high heels or boots. Now, she most likely doesn't wear H&M lol but still, it's more to see what sort of dresses would fit you and then steal some idea's. kiss2

You would look sexy in these kind of clothes.

My mom is little and has many curves, she always wears things that look, how do you say that, a little bit like a bell? Like a church bell, it camouflages any curves around the waist and upper legs and makes you look taller.

And indeed, the dresses Ottensen posted are very good.
