The New House So Far: Den & Bedroom We've been painting and working on home projects every weekend since we moved. Last weekend we finished off our bedroom and now we're done for a while. Come Spring we'll start outdoor projects. Time to sit back and enjoy what we've accomplished so far.
Den: before [img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/personal/den.jpg[/img:$uid]
after [img:$uid]http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i9/jgascot/fireplace-1.jpg[/img:$uid]

Bedroom: We've been working on this for a bit picking up this here and that there. Our goal was masculine glamour. A bit of Deco (but not too theme-y) and then the Manhattan thing kind of happened end evolved on its own. This is my favorite bedroom we've ever had. It feels so grown up and finished and I love going there every night.

Not at all. Lola gets into enough trouble commenting on ASPCA threads.

I generally loath painted white brick (why the hell have brick if you're going to paint it?), but yours looks nice. The mantle definitely helps. That overused light fixture has got to go, though. And maybe, ya know, consider some carpet someday instead of that cold ass tile (I'm not a fan of overusing tile and wood flooring - I like the feel of carpet on my hobbity feets).

oooh I thought she was laughing at how you folded the hand-towel

The house is complete...for now. I still need to do an art piece for the entryway and there's some rooms that still need organization, but pretty much done.
Your bathroom would go well with our bedroom.

The brick on our fireplace was awful. That tri-color felt very dated, and just not "us". We had a full brick wall fireplace at our Philly place and we loved that one. It was all one color brick. This is very us.
The light fixture we don't mind. They're the same throughout the house. We've got other stuff to focus on at the moment (fencing and other outdoor projects). So it's staying for a good while. I've no problem with over-used if it fits into the space, so it's not freakin me out or anything.
No carpeting is going down anywhere. Not with our love for dogs. Once they have an accident or two I feel like it never fully comes out and I just can't take it. I'm not a fan of carpeting at all. We've had it in every home until last and I've come to hate it.

What did I do? I'm not a hand-towel folding expert.

I noticed the try color bricks, I'm still generally against painting them. But like I said, I like yours. I sat and stared at the picture for a good 15 seconds and I was like, "damn, I don't hate that".
Light fixtures are one of the first things I change. They can make a room. I've seen that one about a gazillion times, usually in apartments. But I understand priorities, and if it doesn't bother you
Man, I love carpet. I get what you're saying about the pet mess. But I'd rather replace the carpet every few years than have too much tile or wood flooring. Don't get me wrong, though, I like tile and wood flooring. There just seems to be a trend lately (probably caused by a decade of 1001 home improvement shows) of doing nothing BUT tiles and wood. I can't get with that. I need a good 50% carpet goin' on.

And I'm like the less carpet the better. Maybe if we weren't multiple dog household (we've had as many as 4 at once and no less than 2 ever...considering a 3rd at the moment) I might not have such a hatred for carpets. I actually like area rugs, but can't invest into ones that are too costly if we have to change 'em out yearly or so. Lola will probably hate me for saying this about her but she takes pee-pee pills for a lil' bladder issue. So carpeting is not a good move for us. I jumped for joy when I saw that this house required no pulling up capeting.
We are testing out $20 area rugs in the den at the moment. So far, so good...no accidents on it. If tha continues I might throw another one or two into the room.
