Some of my friends are hating hard on this movie, but I think it looks great. I'll be there for sure. I love how, I'm presuming, Asgard has just continued to exist through time so when Thor gets cast out he lands in modern times. That totally works for me.

I'll reserve my full judgment until I see the actual movie. Almost every trailer looks "good", just like this one does, but it also looks like it has the potential to be a huge clusterfuck!

Nice to see the Shield agent from the Iron Man movies in this one, too. I think I'm a little more excited to the Green Lantern movie than this one, though. The possibilities of the seeing the GL Corp on screen excites me more than Asgard.

I'm not sure why, but Natalie Portman seems wrong for this kind of fantasy movie (kind of like she felt wrong in the Star Wars movies). It'll be interesting to see how they make this positioning of mythological gods into regular action Hollywood universe feel plausible. Hopefully it has a good story, the kind of story you you could recount the parts of and tell someone.

Speaking of Hpkins, I've been seeing parts of The Wolfman on cable... they had a lot of fun tearing people up.

They should have done some false perspective or green screen work. Thor is supposed to be a huge 8ft dude as i remember. certainly not as small as this guy looks.

Eight feet tall is ridiculous. It sounds like some artists were having a bit of artistic license with him. Thor's official height according to Marvel is 6'6".

Oh right. I just remember him fighting Hulk occasionally in the 70's, I'm sure he looked as big as him. Maybe my memory playing tricks or a Marvel revision has happened since.

While we're on the subject of superhero movies, Jon Favreau won't be directing 'Iron Man 3'.

Extremists Call For Thor Movie Boycott confused

December 2010

A white supremacist group has called for a boycott of Marvel's Thor movie over the casting of Idris Elba.

The Council of Conservative Citizens has released a statement through their website objecting to Elba playing Norse god Heimdall in the comic book movie.

"It’s not enough that Marvel attacks conservatives values,” the post states, “now mythological Gods must be re-invented with black skin.”

It directs visitors to Boycott Thor, whose subhead reads, “Keep social engineering out of European mythology.” It’s unclear whether the Council of Conservative Citizens is actually involved with the site, or simply subscribes to the ideology.

“It well known that Marvel is a company that advocates for left-wing ideologies and causes,” the boycott site insists.

“Marvel front man Stan ‘Lee’ Lieber boasts of being a major financier of left-wing political candidates. Marvel has viciously attacked the TEA Party movement, conservatives, and European heritage. Now they have taken it one further, casting a Black man as a Norse deity in their new movie Thor. Marvel has now inserted social engineering into European mythology.”

In an apparent attempt to strengthen its case against Marvel, the site also points to the Black Panther, which it describes as “explicit pro-Black and the comics are viciously anti-White.”

The post ends by linking to a 'Boycott Thor' website. Speaking about his casting earlier in the year, Elba said: "Thor has a hammer that flies to him when he clicks his fingers. That's okay, but the color of my skin is wrong?"

Thor is due out in cinemas next May.

Never been a fan of the Marvel adaptation of the character, and Chris Hemsworth does nothing for me. bored

But the combat scenes, Natalie and the Asgardians look halfway interesting. Maybe I'll catch a matinée.

Around what years were those?

His run on Thor began around '83 and lasted three years. Three magnificently mind-blowing years, I might add.

(from Wiki);

Walt Simonson took over both writing and art as of #337 (Nov. 1983). Simonson's run as writer-artist lasted until #367 (May 1986), although he continued to write – and occasionally draw – the book until issue #382 (Aug. 1987). Simonson was responsible for introducing the character Beta Ray Bill, in what was regarded as a popular and critically acclaimed run.

Those were great stories - almost as good as Peter David's run on the Hulk
