Spice, also known as K2, is a mixture of herbs and spices that typically is sprayed with a synthetic compound chemically similar to THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, according to a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration fact sheet.

"K2 is commonly purchased in head shops, tobacco shops, various retail outlets and over the internet," the DEA said. "It is often marketed as incense or 'fake weed.'" Its effects on the body are similar to that of marijuana.

In January, seven midshipmen were expelled from the Naval Academy for using the synthetic drug.

And in just the last four months 151 sailors have been accused of using or possessing the drug, already an almost 60% increase when compared to the previous fiscal year, which ended in September.

"The number of incidents of spice usage is rising at an alarming rate in our Navy," said Adm. John C. Harvey Jr., commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command. "If you are considering using spice, I strongly urge you to reconsider. If you are caught using it, even once, you will be processed for separation from the Navy. There is no second chance."

While the synthetic drug is not yet considered illegal in the United States, the Defense Department and the Navy in particular have banned it.

Has anyone used it?

I've never seen this packaging, nor am I aware of anyone I know who uses it or has tried it.

It used to be available over here (Germany), cost about 20 Euros and is now banned. I think it is still available in Poland, where you can also get a lot of other,similar semi-legal drugs due to some loopholes in the drug laws. MJ on the other hand is strictly illegal there.

It is being banned in the US city by city county by county and state by state.

And it may be a violation of one of the general provisions of federal law at least in terms of the FDC. But that may apply only to the sellers.

And IIRC it would been banned by the UCMJ even if it was not specifically banned. For sure if you showed up or failed to show for duty and appeared to be intoxicated.

While I was still in the Air Force in the beginning of 2010, we were briefed that it was banned/illegal (for service members).

Synthetic Marijauna

There are many different types.

Ignore anyone and everyone that is saying "this herbal high crap doesn't work" or any variation thereof. It USED to be crap, the fake stuff sold in the High Times Magazine years ago, but this kind that has emerged in the past 2 years or so is actually very effective at getting you "high"

It is made from herbs such as Damiana sprayed with a very nasty manmade chemical called JWH-018. This chemical is a synthetic THC and when smoked will almost perfectly replicate the experience of smoking some really good weed.

The problem is, the long-term effects are completely unknown, it's unregulated so batch by batch varies in the amount of the chemical it's been sprayed with, and in the short term, it is making people have seizures, panic attacks, extremely high heart rates, passing out, vomiting, and all kinds of other nasty stuff.

I have smoked a lot of this stuff in the past and it put my roommate in the hospital for 6 hours once. Seizures, the whole works.

Also, I worked for a company that sells and distributes these products, and they are extremely shady, unethical criminals. I worked there for one day and walked out.

Define 'crap'

The stuff gets you high as hell, some say it is better than the real thing.

It is an epidemic around my way.

I have never encountered anyone who has had a bad experience with it, not to say that it hasn't happened, but panic attacks and things of that nature are also side effects of marijauna.

Pick your poison, but if you are trying to say that the stuff doesn't 'work', you are very wrong.

uhmmm i need to go find a head shop or smoke shop........
