Houston now nation's 3rd largest city(chicago) They've projected ofor decades but now it looks liek reality. Not only is The Houston metropolitain area about to approach 6 milion the city population is about to surpass Chicago. What they forgot to tell you in this article is that 3 million people are supposed to move to The Houston Metro Area by 2030. So we will then go from 6 to 9 million. That's as large or larger than the current size of Chicago [Edited 2/2/11 18:35pm] Working up a purple sweat. | |

Well, it's still too early to declare Houston as the third largest city; we'll have to await the official census results in December, but considering that Houston benefited greatly in the job market in the 2000's while Chicago's industrial base shrank, that in itself would draw a lot of people to the city. In addition, Houston was a huge destination for Latino immigrants the past decade, and it also absorbed a large number of African Americans displaced by Hurricane Katrina. According to the Census bureau, they estimated Houston had 2.3 million residents as of 2009 while Chicago had just under 2.9 million. Granted, these are estimates, but the official headcount will reveal a lot more.
