To me, too. I mean...the forecasters were pretty much right on with their predictions about timing and amounts for this storm. Why were people still out there? And on Lakeshore Drive, for crying out loud! They had Heavy Freezing Spray warnings on top of the lake snow warnings, blizzard warnings and everything else. confuse

I live 150 miles NW of Chicago, but we still got nailed. I watched the radar all morning and made sure I left work before the snow hit. Good thing, too - because when it hit, it hit hard.

nod

I think part of it, my own sister included, is that people were not allowed to go home before this mess all started. They fully expected my sister to be at work today too.

They had several accidents south of North Ave. and one further up near Sheridan Rd. That's what started some of that drama, people who live on the Drive did go over and offered food, water , sodas, and blankets. It was kinda surreal. . . .

Shame on the company your sister works for, I mean really.

Y'know...as much as I bitch about my job sometimes, the company's really pretty good when it comes to letting people "opt out" of working when the weather's horrendous. They know many of us have long commutes over a highway that drifts or ices over at the drop of a hat.

Of course, I don't work in an area that affects operations on a day-to-day basis. Might be different if I did.

Hope your sister made it home safely!

Yep. She didn't go in today but they told her if she didn't come in today, it is an unexcused absence. disbelief

I didn't get off til 9 that night. I got stuck on the e-way and when I got home my car got stuck in the middle of the street. Just a few feet from my parking lot. I didn't get in the house until almost 2am. I called roadside and I couldn't get a tow. 311 told me I wasn't the only one stuck and that it was on me to find help. My battery died AND I ran out of gas so I just had to leave it. Its still there. Some guys are shoveling a path for it and they are gonna help me move it. sigh

Lakeshore Drive in Chicago this morning.

eek

did people have to spend the night in their cars?

that looks insane. so they were all driving and what? the traffic grinded to a halt

and then they got completely snowed in? that's pretty scary.

My lovely neighbor has a little CATERPILLAR, lol, and he cleared my driveway in 10 minutes yesterday. My daughter has another day off at school, so we're okay. smile

I heard this morning that some people were, indeed, trapped in their car for nine hours.

I took this video at about 5:30pm-6:00pm on Feb 1. I could only stay outside for about 2 mins because the wind was unreal. This was really the first edge of the storm beginning to unleash on Chicago.
