Damn shame neutral

Such an awful thing in wintertime. disbelief

But I'm confused about something: Wouldn't your power grid support demand for the air conditioning units you must use in Texas' very hot summers? Does heating those same spaces use up much more power than cooling them? confuse I suppose clearly it does.

I would think it does that's why it is such a shame.

I think it was due to an unexpected increase in demand.

for the non-texas people: Many homes in the area have electric heaters. Normally we get by with a heat pump but when it gets this cold we need to use what is known as emergancy heat. As well as many more people being home and running tvs and lights that would normally be off during the day.

Ah. I see.

Well, I do wish you all well. It sounds like what folk are calling "a snowpocalype" down there from where I am. Can't be fun.

they said something on the news about getting some power untis back on line to help cover the demand. Also the weather has knocked out some power putting uneaven demand on some of the systems. They said if one goes down it can take other down with it. Thus the need for blak outs. We did not have one YET but some friends said they had 2.

i got out again. paid the electic bill. and got some grochries that I should have picked up last night.

And I have a rant:

People, I know it is cold but when walking across a lane of car traffic please keep in mind that there are many patches of ice and that car you are running in front of may not be able to stop.... i nearly creamed a lady. She ran across the car lane between to large ice patches.

And when approaching an intersection: same deal, do not assume the car coming will be able to stop! I do not care how many stop signs there are! This time it was two other people that nearly crashed. r

here in minneapolis the temps are supposed to get up into the double digits! well, yay! bust out the tee shirts and shorts

this is the time of year when hope (or, insanity), springs eternal in the hearts of minnesotans. every year, when the temps get above, say, 40, people decide summer is here to stay..
