* Seroquel. I heard a comedian once say it was like having a bath towel suddenly stuffed inside your brain. That's about right.

lol I've tried 4 different prescription sleep meds and they all made me feel like that.

My vertigo makes my head feel like a balloon but the meclizine helps a lot. It's an antihistamine. Dramamine is the otc version.

I've never had insomnia really. Usually I lay my head on the pillow and fall asleep instantaneous.

Recent events have made me lose sleep. In fact, I went for three whole days without being able to sleep a wink. Finally I was so physically/emotionally exhausted that I found a bottle of oxycodone from back when I had a kidney stone and took one. I realize it's playing with fire, but it worked, it dulled the pain and I managed a full night's sleep. I only did that one other time (the following night I think).

The other night I suffered another bout of despair. So bad I wound up puking. Fortunately I have a bottle of Grey Goose and some cranberry juice in the fridge. I dulled the pain with booze and (after posting crap on the Org) I managed to fall asleep.

This is, of course, NOT the way to go. I certainly recognize the dangers of relying on alcohol or drugs. I subsequently went out and had long discussions with family & friends (even cyberfriends here on the Org). It helped me get to a better state of mind.

I think that a clear mind is essential for a good night's sleep. So, go out and resolve whatever conflicts may be troubling you. You might not even realize that there's angst within you. Talk to someone, or better yet talk to MANY people. Vent. Cry. Scream. Pray.

Whatever works for you to reach that calmness that will allow you to fall asleep.

Hang in there...you're in my thoughts, hug

I used to take Valerian Root for my insomnia. You can get it from the health food store. Now since I have the vertigo I've been taking Meclizine which makes me sleepy.

One pill and a book does it for me.

Valerian smells like feet. disbelief

I have some crazy sleeping patterns many nights anyway. I'll get off work, fix me something to eat, and maybe fall asleep on the couch watching TV around 7:00 or 8:00 p.m. Wake up around midnight or 1:00 a.m., get on the computer until around 4:00 a.m. then go back to sleep with the alarm clock set for 6:00 a.m. but will keep pressing the snooze button until around 6:30 or 6:45 a.m. and have to force myself to get up and get ready to go to work.

Actually, Friday and Saturday nights are the only times I don't sleep in different pieces throughout the night. On those nights, since I don't have a certain time to be up the next morning, I start drinking and listening to music around 6:00 p.m. or so until around 3:00, 4:00, sometimes 5:00 a.m. Whenever I finally do go to sleep, I sleep all the way through for hours.

Ditto. Sometimes i dont even bother to sleep, just head straight to work. I have been known to doze a bit during meetings though (quite notorious for it actually), but i think thats just cuz they are boring, after all i manage to teach a full day on no sleep.

Sleep is overrated OP, you will get all you need when you are dead. There must be something you can turn your hand to when you cant sleep. Sleeping 8hrs at night aint for everyone, you ought to discover the joy of power napping (the most refreshing sleep you will ever have)

Oh yeah, weed works.

I'm sure you ARE a good influence on your kids. Smoke weed when they are sleeping. You will sleep like a baby and be better for them in the morning. biggrin

Oh, geez. I know just how you feel! That shit happens to me, too and I hate it! I try not to go to sleep too early because I'll wake up and then can't get back to sleep until just before it's time to get up and start the grind all over again.

maybe you should try drinking less

If I drink my sleep is terrible. It's okay once in a while, but too often would ruin me.
