Adding user to computer: How do I allow that user to access networked databases?

For example:

The computers on the network can all access certain Excel files, in a certain folder.

I've added a user (in addition to Admin, of course) on one computer. How do I allow that user to access the same files?

If it makes any difference, they're XP machines.

Your help would be much appreciated!

It sounds like maybe they are sharing files stored on a server computer, not ones stored on their individual computers (since all computers are accessing the same files)

I think you need to get access to the shared file to this new user. I don't know specifically how to do this since I don't know how your shared files are accessed.

But if it is stored on the computer itself, then the separation of users on XP is not too deep. You can easily go from one side to the other. If you go My Computer/C Drive/Programs & Settings then you can see the users' files, and could create shortcuts across users

No prob (even if I am not actually helping)

so your case you'd set up access the same way you set it up on all of the machines, you'd just have to do it twice for this computer

Or, I might try creating a shortcut on your side, then move the shortcut to their side using the path I described above

had I gotten here earlier, i would have advised you to put your right foot in, put your right foot out, put your right foot in and you shake it all about! do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, that's what it's all about!

dear, you're adorable no matter what you say, but that's a dance, not a computer fix.
