How can a coach NOT teach even basic team defense???? I'm not asking for 90s-style Pat Riley D(those days are long gone), just give me effort on the defensive end. That falls on the head coach for not holding players accountable. Popp wouldn't stand for that shit in San Antonio. I fucking HATE D'Amphony.

HUGE Knicks fan here, and I've been loving the Knicks team and their play.
Landry Fields and Stoudemire are outstanding.
Don't like Mosgov.
D'Antoni is a fantastic coach, and they DO have a high number of blocks and steals. The defense is there.

D'Antoni believes if it worked in phoenix, it will work in NY, not so. The east is more of a defensive minded conference and as much as I hate to say it, the Knicks just don't have the people on the team, that can play 48mins of that style of ball. Plus, as much as I like A'mare, he is no Stev Nash, who is a master at running that Phoenix offense. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

It didn't work in Phoenix either. Where are the rings? Spurs beat him every time.
You want to win championships, it's about rebounding and getting crucial stops at "winning time". Even the Showtime Lakers played defense when they had too.

Alright... I will say this:
SOME of the key elements of a strong defense are there, but they most definitely in need of a fast, tall Center. Mosgov just ain't cuttin' it, and Turiaf is great on D, but not consistent enough.
It's coming. "He's a musician's musician..."

I wanted Tom Thibodeau to coach the Knicks so bad. I am so sick of this 'matador defense'. How can you lose to the fucking Clippers? A team that won THREE road games! What's going to happen tomorrow against the Lakers?
And if the players are defensively-challenged, it's up to the staff to TEACH them the fundamentals of team defense. Coach these fools up - hold them accountable for missing an assignment. According to one of the announcers who sat in on several practices, defense is not a priority. Pitiful.

WOW!! I didn't know, they felt that way about defense. They had lastnight's game, but they broke down at the end. My thing is, you might not have been able to stop that guy, but at least put a body on him and make him work for those shots. He was left out in the open and he was just throwing them shots down. Give me Joakim Noah or even Marcus Camby, a solid backup point guard, a lights-out shooter(Gallo's too inconsistent) and a coach who wants effort on 'D', then we're talking.

That's what I'm saying. I know the Knicks can't play Spurs-style 'D', but make the other team work. Effort, effort, effort.

Jerry Sloan is quitting.

According to Mike Francesca, it was over a simmering feud between Sloan and Deron Williams. Allegedly, they recently had a fight. [Edited 2/10/11 12:11pm]

The cat & mouse game between NY and Denver continues;
Carmelo Anthony available, but Knicks balk at request for Gallinari, Felton, starter, Curry, pick

Something tells me, the Knicks are going to wait until the end of the season, to aquire Carmelo. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Denver is running out of time. If they let him walk, the GM should be fired.

If there wasn't the threat of a lockout, I'd agree.

Thing is... I wouldn't give up Felton Robinson nor Landry Fields. I mean come ON... THREE starters?? A) The Knicks' bench isn't that deep to compensate. B) What the Knicks really need is a big Center... Mosgov is terrible, and Turiaf should only be a backup Center. A big, tall Center who can rule the paint on defense, is what the Knicks truly need.

They'd still need another franchise player to pair with Amar'e. Aside from the Pistons in '04, you don't become a serious perennial contender unless you have at least two superstars.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I agree. They need someone else for Amar'e to get the ball to and vice versa. The days of the "Big" center, are done. The game, has become a game of scoring. The combination of Melo and Amar'e, can give them that. "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

Giovanni's right, though. Knicks need an athletic, quick, big man to give them a defensive presence in the paint. He doesn't have to score, except on putbacks. Like a Joakim Noah type.
You need those wide bodies down low. What did the Lakers do after Boston pounded them in the '08 finals? [Edited 2/15/11 14:11pm]

Good point on the Lakers. The Knicks couldn't do a thing in that MSG game recently, because they didn't have what they needed in the paint. Mosgov just ain't cuttin' it. I'd trade him in a heartbeat. "He's a musician's musician..."

I think Moz can be a servicable backup. He needs better coaching, which he won't get from D'Amphony.

Was watching the Nuggets/Bucks game on ESPN & they interviewed Melo and they played clips of the interview throughout the game. Melo mentioned that all the starting five of the Nuggets contracts are up in the Summer, I think he mentioned George Karl's contract will be up then too, so not only could they lose Melo, they could lose their starting five plus their coach. I think the best option for Denver now unless they sign Melo to an extension would be to trade him to the Knicks. IMO NY should definitely keep hold of Stoudamire, Fields & Felton and maybe also Gallinari too, but it's unlikely Denver would do a trade without Fields, Felton & Gallinari or a combination of two or maybe all three players involved.
However the Nuggets should learn from what happened with the Cavs when Cleveland lost Lebron to free agency. If they did a trade earlier in the season they could have got some good players in return with another top tier team, but maybe since they won they had a strong regular season and many thought they'd win the NBA Championship that year that they didn't want to make a trade. I'm guessing the theory was that if Cleveland won the Championship, LBJ would have signed a contract extension. [Edited 2/18/11 4:54am]
