Are straight guys allowed to get manicures? What's the protocol on that?

Manicure (clean up/tidy up) yes. If you get acrylics to "strengthen" your nails I ain't inviting your ass to dinner. neutral

I used to get the acrylic nails applied, but that was years ago. I stopped because I didn't like how I didn't really have the sensation of feeling. I have to type a lot in my profession, and those long acrylic nails almost make it impossible. I can't feel the keyboard properly and consequently, I make tons of typos. Then when it's time to take those suckers off, they just ruin your natural nail bed. My nails will grow, but they're weak and tend to crack and split. I have these ridges in my nails, too which makes them prone to splitting. confused

I keep mine quite short. In fact, Bob (my nail tech) always bitches when I tell him to cut them down. I tell him I can't type if they get too long! lol

Here's the thing with my nails: I didn't get them "done" 'til I was well into my 40s. I'd struggled my whole damn life with my shitty nails - they're thin and weak, and won't hold polish for love nor money. And at that point, I knew the chances of them getting better were nil.

I got tired of having awful-looking hands that didn't match the rest of me. Someone thinks my not-too-long, simply painted nails are tacky? Fine. It's highly unlikely their opinion matters to me, anyway. Sweetie likes them. I like them. That's good enough for me. shrug

Oh is that what you're all up in arms about? Let me clarify.....

The long dragon nails are cheap and tacky.....short nails are fine. I didn't realize that I would tweak your nose so much about my own opinion, especially when you are well known for degrading and insulting many others without remorse yourself. shrug

Break as in a split on the free edge? Personally i'd just file 'em all down.

on the side...ya know..you're nails start getting long and you get a crack like way down low on the side...if I cut it or file it it will hurt it's so low down. want to fix it till it grows out a bit.

hmmm

There are some nail glues... i've never used them though, so can't say how effective they are.

Or you mean like a hang-nail?

If you keep your hands moisturised, and use nail strengthener this should prevent it.

Usually, those breaks on the side are "clean" breaks - which means nail glue isn't going to work very well on its own. Any little torque of the nail and the break will pop loose again. A silk or fiberglass wrap would be needed to stabilize the break.

I'm a bit disturbed that my nail tech and back up nail tech have names like Betty and Suzie when their licenses say:

Vin Tran Nguyen and Dung Tho Mai

sad I rather like the names Vin and Dung.

Mine is called "Angie", but I can't pronounce her name.

Her daughter "Rosa" (also not her Korean name) told me they were like "confirmation names" adopted in church.

I really don't care for a French manicure. I always think they look like porn nails. Or home shopping network nails.

And I don't like them square, either. I make Bob file mine round - I think they look more natural that way. shrug

Wouldn't the square ones actually be more natural, though? Unless you nibble at your nails as they grow, I guess?

Look at the tip of your finger. Is it square? No, it's rounded. The shape of my nails follows the shape of my nailbed - and the tip of my finger. That's what I mean by natural.

Your nail shape should match the shape of your cuticle.

Mine are more square, so my nails are more square than rounded. Round cuticles should have a round shape.

Well, mine are a mixture - rounded on my fingers and more square on my thumbs. The "rounds" win! lol
