Have you found your "dream" home? OK...so we have lived in this house for 20 yrs...now its time to find a more comfortable place, quiet neighbourhood where we can retire (eventually) Im worried that IF our house sells, we wont find our dream home. The real estate agent said in all her yrs its never happened. But i am still stressed out about it.
How long did it take for you to find your home? & are you still lovin it?

It was my dream to own my own home. It needs some work, but it's comfortable and I like it a lot. I live on a dead end street, and the neighbors are nice. It's been 2 years as of this past Sunday!
Maybe one day I'll get something else, but I don't think so. I like it here. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Something tells me I'll never be able to afford it though

I didn't search around all that hard to find my place. I heard it was being built; it was in my location of choice and the plans looked good. I've been here about a decade now.
A while back, I considered moving. At first, I thought I wanted to be closer to the office, 'cause driving in the winter can sometimes be a bitch. Then I saw some building plans that looked really fly, in my current 'hood.
But then I thought, 'I'm very happy where I am right now. The soundproofing in the building is excellent and I love the location. Why the fuck would I move?'
It may not be my "dream" home, but how many people have that? I just consider myself lucky to have what I have. It would be cool and all to have everything exactly the way I would like it to be, but I've got everything just the way I need it to be.
And that's good enough, for me.

I built mine and I'm LOVING it five years later.
I was in my previous house, my first, for 7 years and totally knew it was not my "dream" home. Great starter house but not a forever house for me. During that time, I spent hours and hours looking at neighborhoods and model homes to find the design elements and features I wanted. I had a laundry list of must haves and nice to haves.
When I was financially ready to start construction, I studied the floor plan for over a year and knew every change I wanted to make. During construction I was on site 3 times a week for 10 months cuz luckily my other house was only 3 miles aways. That was a great benefit because since I was so familiar with my changes I was able to spot several mistakes during framing and throughout the building process. The construction manager remarked several times, "I've never had a female be this familiar with the building process and specific about what she wants."
I'm obssessive about everything I do especially when my money is involved. I had been buying, selling, building houses for a few years, so I educated myself about construction. It's important to ask the right questions and have a good understanding about what they are doing. I caught LOTS of mistakes and attemped shortcuts that are standard but most buyers don't even notice.
The interior design was also planned for a year and I selected and bought everything while the house was being constructed. I didn't bring any furniture from my other house and chose most of the pieces online. So, everything I got for the new one was pretty much purchased sight unseen and I just prayed the shit would work together when I saw it in a room. Thank God it did.
Then there was changing out every lighting/plumbing fixture from the builder's crap and doing the designs for the concrete floors and having those done before anything could be installed. It was a lot of work and it took me a month after closing before I could move in. Luckily, I wasn't in a rush to put my house on the market so I could stay there until everything was done in the new one.
For me, it was a true labor of love. I had an excellent builder (one of the best in the country) who allowed me to customize my home without charging me up the wazzoo. I take great pride in the fact that every wall, window, fixture, piece of molding is where it is because that's where *I* wanted it. It wasn't so long ago that black people and other minorities couldn't live where we wanted and we're STILL excluded from certain areas regularly. So as a single, black woman surrounded by white folks trynna figure how I did it, I think it's a great accomplishment.
I say all this to say, that if at all possible take your time. Make a list of what you MUST have and what you'd like to have. Spend a lot of time looking at houses/builders to fully understand what's available and what your money can buy.
Good luck on your search.

Some sellers are just like that. He prolly doesn't want to sell and his wife is making him list the property or something.

SCNDLS and I have the same values when it comes to home. I did the very same thing when I was in the market for my house. I was at the building site every weekend making sure things were done right. I took a camera with me to take pictures and have documentation of any and all fuckups. The carpenters and construction guys couldn't believe such a PYT (at that time I was ) knew so much about construction and "code." They were impressed.
Is it my dream home? No. It is an end unit 3-level townhouse and I'm ready for a single family ranch with a basement. I don't think I will be able to handle stairs in my older age. Since I don't have a husband or children, all I would need is 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, kitchen, living/dining room, den, basement and large back yard with garden and pool and nearest neighbors at least 100 yards away with tree shelter. I don't want to be able to see inside someone else's house nor they mine.
But right now I am thankful for what I do have, what with so many folk losing their homes. But for the grace of God go I...

I saw some badass pictures of a house in Gold Coast....of a certain "designer/decorator/aspiring realtor" that once resided here....her house is amazing...she know who she be...very talented and apparently wildly successful...

I love the house I am in now...had it built about 7 yrs ago. It's not my dream dream home, but I am still young. Have looked at a house here outside of town, that really could become my dream home. Pool, hot tub, guest house, and this walk in shower that could fit 10 people. Proud Memaw to Seyhan Olivia Christine ,Zoey Cirilo Jaylee & Ellie Abigail Lillian

I built this house almost 5 years ago at age 33. Provided I don't get married and move to something nicer and if I'm blessed with good health, I plan to be here until I'm 65-70. At that point, 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, etc. will definitely be too much for lil ol' me. Then, I'll move back into a starter type 3/2 house. [Edited 1/20/11 7:38am]

Is he old? Maybe it's just to get attention and interact with people.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
early 60's and his interaction skills are sorely lacking he acts like he's doing somebody a favor by trying to gouge them on this house and from what I understand every offer has "offended" him; even tho all those offers have been more than fair
How is it you feel? | |

Any house that my sweetie's in is my dream home. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Or he just might be a complete asshole overcharging for the house trying to wait until the market comes back around and some fool to pay his price. Obviously, if it's been on the market for two years, he's not at all serious and can afford to act the ass.

He's prolly just lonely. Go take him some cookies or sumthin' Be nice!

There are folks in my neighborhood who had their house on the market for 3 years and wouldn't budge. They were trynna downsize cuz they were empty nesters. I guess their kid getting ready to graduate from college spurred them to get out. As soon as they lowered the price the house sold a month later.

we've tried not the cookies but the being nice we've spoke to him with an agent present and without he's even worse one on one he's just a very hateful person with a very overpriced, albeit very nice, house the land it sits on is absolutely beautiful if I win the lottery, I'll gladlyoverpay for it but even the rich folks in town that want it won't pay the price he's asking How is it you feel?

That was option #2. If orger is serious about his house, maybe he should try to establish some type of rapport with the seller so if/when he's really ready to sell, he'll be more inclined to sell it to orger who really loves it and will take care of it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Okay, well look at the bright side, maybe he'll drop dead soon and his estate will sell the property at a bargain to unload it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well, there's a good chance of that happening if he's as hateful and spiteful as described. God don't like ugly...
