Saw this on Yahoo yesterday . . . America's Most Affluent NeighborhoodsThe Town of Westlake, Texas, might be best-known for being the home of the Jonas Brothers. But this Dallas suburb, where Buffalo roam the ranch land, is crawling with the rich and famous. Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton has a house there, as does his boss, Rangers owner Chuck Greenberg. Vernon Wells, the Toronto Blue Jays center fielder, is building a massive home in Westlake; New York Yankee Mark Teixeira already owns a house there that he's been trying to sell.
Westlake boasts a Tom Fazio designed golf course and some famous golfers like K.J. Choi and Todd Hamilton live there, too. Former Exxon chief Lee Raymond is building a house in Westlake, which is already home to Matthew Rose, the CEO of Burlington Northern Santa Fe ( BNI - news - people ), who is seen as a potential successor of Warren Buffett.
No wonder this Dallas suburb is the most affluent neighborhood in the country, with estimated annual median household income of $250,000. "It's not so much of a surprise, since we are a very small town and we have a number of highly paid professional athletes who live here, CEOs of major corporations, members of a popular band of brothers," says Laura Wheat, the mayor of the Town of Westlake. "There is no place like it."
Westlake has 703 residents who live in rolling estates and send their children to the only municipally owned federal charter school in Texas. There is also a grass runway for airplanes belonging to the residents. Deloitte, a big accounting and consulting firm, is building a $300 million training center in Westlake, adding to a strong corporate presence that includes Fidelity Investments' regional headquarters.

Not trying to look to far ahead on this, but should my Bears beat the Packers this Sunday and the Steelers beat the Jets, who will the President root for? Yes, he is a transplanted Chicago native, but he said that the Steelers were his second favorite team, and the Rooney family contributed heavily to him getting elected to the White House. So where will his loyalties lie?

He'll be fine at the SuperBowl. If he visits the sideline it will be pregame. It won't be after halftime. He'll likely be in a box. The fact that it's a new venue that factored in security makes the trip feasible. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
I think he will be fine too. the issue is the hassle to all the others that want to attend. flight delayes more traffic issues, added security checks...
no matter what he needs to think about others and not go.
I hope green bay wins (as I would anyway) but if it is the bears I suspect Obama will bow out of going. and he will make a funny little appearance on the big screen at the stadium. But I do not think he will really go. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

For those who were in ATL for the Superbowl, do you remember when the cellular network crashed???
Wireless Providers Power Up Ahead of Super BowlWith all the football fans headed to North Texas for Super Bowl XLV, it's likely each and every one will have a cell phone or two in hand. The influx of fans are sure to push wireless networks to the limit, but providers say they are prepared. "Our network team has been working diligently for months," said Meredith Adams with AT&T. "We've invested millions of dollars in Cowboys Stadium." The goal inside the stadium is to win the wireless war come Super Bowl Sunday. "This is the biggest football game of the year and the fans coming into town are absolutely going to want to share their experience with their friends and their families," said Adams. "And they'll be doing that wirelessly." That's why AT&T has been working for months to make sure their network can keep up with all the cell phones set to converge on Cowboys Stadium. "We've enhanced our network there by 150% and we've also added double the number of cell sites within the stadium," said Adams. They have plenty of reason to do that -- since Cowboys Stadium opened its doors, AT&T has seen a drastic increase in wireless use in the area. "Over the past year we've seen our voice traffic at Cowboys Stadium increase by 50% and our data traffic increase by 275%," Adams said. From phone calls to texts, social networking to web browsing; its possible data and voice usage will break a record in Cowboys Stadium on game day. "So it's important for us to make sure that network is performing and is enhanced in order to help these customers make those calls that are important to them or to cheer on their teams," said Adams. The enhanced network will stay in place even after the Super Bowl is over, giving better service to home team fans. Verizon has also enhanced their wireless network in and around Cowboys Stadium and also at Super Bowl event venues and thoroughfares. Even before Super Bowl XLV, Verizon installed a state-of-the-art distributed antenna system at Cowboys Stadium to support the wireless usage of large crowds.

Green Bay Heads to the Super Bowl
Green Bay takes down the Chicago Bears, 21-14, to become the NFC champs and pack their bags for Arlington. Now, the Packers will take on the AFC champions in Cowboys Stadium for Super Bowl XLV. It was a one-sided game for a good chuck of the game, with Green Bay's 14 unanswered points until a rally by the Bears starting in the third quarter. It was the first time the teams had met in the playoffs since 1941. A knee injury for Bears' quarterback Jay Cutler took Chicago's starting QB out of the game in the third quarter The new NFC champs will stay in the Irving Omni Mandalay Hotel while their opponents will stay on the west side in Fort Worth's Omni location.

I have a good friend who plays for the Jets. After so many years in the league I'd love to see him get a ring. Plus, I met him years ago when he was on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad which is where his career started. It would be cool for him to come back to Dallas in the Superbowl.

Christina Aguilera to Sing National Anthem at SBXLV
ESPN, USA Today and thousands of Twitter users are all, well, atwitter, that Christina Aguilera has been tapped to sing the National Anthem at Super Bowl XLV. The five-time Grammy winning singer-songwriter and actress will be part of the pregame show which will be televised worldwide. “I have been performing the Anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true,” Aguilera said. “I am really excited to be part of such an iconic event.” The NFL was slow to confirm the news, but confirm they eventually did after a host of gossip sites, such as Gossip Cop, whoever that is, spilled the beans. So, there you go. It's a hot rumor, now confirmed.

Cheeseheads, Terrible Towels Headed to DFW
Get ready for a hair-raisin' Super Bowl in Big D. No barbers necessary, that's for sure, when the Steelers face the Packers. Troy Polamalu and the Steel Curtain led Pittsburgh into the big game for the third time in six years, holding off Rex Ryan and those big-talkin' Jets 24-19 in the AFC championship game Sunday.
The black-and-gold already have won six Super Bowl rings, more than any franchise, but they'll be going against a team that can hold its own in the history department. Green Bay was the Monster of the Midway in the NFC, winning its third straight road playoff game 21-14 over the rival Chicago Bears. The Packers can also hold their own in the hair department, too, with the grungy locks of Clay Matthews matched against Polamalu's thick mass of curls. A pair of over-the-top 'dos for America's most outsized sporting event, a de facto national holiday that brings all of America together in front of their high-def, big-screen TVs for a blitz of salsa and wings, unabashed capitalism and glitzy halftime shows -- and, for most of the past decade, some dang good football. And let's not forget our other national pastime: gambling. The Packers opened as 2½-point favorites for the game Feb. 6 at Cowboys Stadium, the spaceship of a stadium that Jerry Jones built to showcase a game as big as all of Texas. That spread sounds about right, based on the classic finishes that have become the norm in a game that used to be anything but Super on the field. Beginning in 2000, when the Rams stopped the Titans a yard short of the tying score as time ran out, six Super Bowls have been decided by a touchdown or less, many of them going right down to the final seconds. The storylines abound in this one, from Ben Roethlisberger turning an offseason of discontent into a year of triumph to Aaron Rodgers leading the sixth-seeded Packers to one big win after another, much like the guy whose shadow he's left in the dust, Brett Favre. Both teams started strong and held on for dear life to win their conference titles. Pittsburgh was up 24-0 but needed a goal-line stand to finally silence the Jets. The Packers jumped ahead by two touchdowns on the Bears, who nearly pulled it out with third-string quarterback Caleb Hanie leading the comeback. An interception in the final minute sent Green Bay packing for Dallas. "We made a play to win the game and that's all that matters," Matthews said. "Keep playing defense the way we know how, and it's going to be tough for teams to beat us." Roethlisberger is going for his third title in six years, after sitting out the first four games as punishment for his behavior in a small Georgia college town over the offseason. He was accused of sexually assaulting a young woman, though no charges were filed. His reputation took a beating, however. Having apologized and insisted that he's a changed man, Big Ben hopes to move him into rarified territory with a third Super Bowl ring. The only quarterbacks who have won more are Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana, each with four. "This one was for Steelers fans," Roethlisberger said. "I'm really proud of the way you came out and supported us." Green Bay is known as Titletown USA, but the Packers haven't won it all since 1997. The people who wear cartoon-looking blocks of cheese on their heads figure that's long enough, considering the boys of the frozen tundra have won more titles than any other franchise when taking into account what happened before there was a game with Super in the title. The Packers count a dozen NFL titles in all, including the first two Super Bowls in 1967 and '68 with Vince Lombardi stalking the sideline. That '97 title, a 14-point romp past the New England Patriots, is the only time Green Bay has hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy since then, though. Green Bay hasn't had much luck in Dallas, either, losing nine straight games since its last win there in 1989. But all of those defeats came against the hometown Cowboys in old Texas Stadium. This is a different time, a different place, a different team. The stakes have never been higher. So break out those Cheeseheads and Terrible Towels. Just be sure to leave the scissors at home.

Super Coincidence: Two Moms, a Packer and a SteelerMothers of two NFL players work in same Bedford office
Call it a super coincidence: Two mothers who happen to work in the same Bedford medical collections office have sons who play on opposing teams in the Super Bowl. For years, Diane Browning and Joyce Nance have swapped stories about their sons, who both dreamed of playing in the NFL. "She would tell me her stories, I’d tell her mine,” Browning said. "We support each other. We talk all the time." Last year, Nance’s son Dimitri, once a star running back at Trinity High School in Euless and later at Arizona State, got picked up by the Green Bay Packers. Also last year, Dorian Brooks, who played high school football in Virginia and went on to James Madison College, ended up on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Against the odds, both rookies are now headed to the Super Bowl. "I mean they're at the Super Bowl, can you believe that?" Browning asked. Don’t look for either to actually play in the Super Bowl. Brooks is on the practice squad and, as a young rookie, Nance will probably stay on the sidelines. But their mothers will both be here, to root for them. "I'm just so excited, I just don't know,” Nance said. Added Browning: "I'll probably be screaming my head off." And which team will win? "Of course, the Green Bay Packers,” Nance predicted. "There's no rivalry because we've both won,” Browning said. But she quickly added with a laugh, “But the Steelers are going to take that ring, OK? That's all I've got to say about that."

Peja Stojakovic joins Mavs![]() DALLAS (AP) - Peja Stojakovic used to pile up points against the Dallas Mavericks. Now they're eager to see what he can do for them. Dallas signed Stojakovic off waivers on Monday in a bid to replace some of the scoring punch lost when Caron Butler went down with a season-ending injury. Although Stojakovic has averaged 17.2 points per game over his career, and 19.2 per game against Dallas, the Mavericks realize that's not the guy they are getting. This is the fourth straight season his average has dropped. He's also played only eight games because of knee injuries, the last on Nov. 26. Dallas is even his third stop; he started with New Orleans and was dealt to Toronto, then was waived on Thursday. The Mavs don't even know when the 33-year-old Stojakovic will suit up. "We're taking it slow," team president Donnie Nelson said. "Depends on him getting into game shape." Dallas was off to a tremendous start this season until Dirk Nowitzki got hurt, then Butler was lost. Nowitzki is back in the lineup but clearly still not at full strength. The Mavs are in a 4-10 rut heading into a four-game homestand that opens Tuesday night against the Clippers. Stojakovic did most of his damage against Dallas during his heyday with the Sacramento Kings. They were frequent playoff foes with the Mavericks. That's what team owner Mark Cuban had in mind when he tweeted: "Peja is now a Mav ! Time to let him drop some of those 3s on the bad guys" To clear a roster spot, the Mavericks traded fourth-string center Alexis Ajinca to Toronto for the rights to Georgios Printezis, who is playing in Spain. The NBA office approved the deal after investigating whether there was more to Toronto waiving a player Dallas wanted at the same time the clubs made a trade. The league apparently ruled these were separate transactions.

This one's for you Nurse
ESPN, Steelers Move Into Cowtown
With both ESPN and the NFL moving into Sundance Square in Fort Worth, it's obvious the Super Bowl is coming to North Texas. The AFC banners hang outside the Omni Fort Worth Hotel, and new signs for the Steelers are being printed as team staff members start checking into their home for the big game. A saddle for the team's owner sits in the lobby, soon to be adorned with the Steelers logo. "The buzz here has been unreal," said Larry Auth, area director of sales and marketing for Omni Hotels. "From what we're hearing from all the NFL staff and security, it's going to be a lot of folks, a lot of fans, but we're ready for it."
Though the hotel's 600-plus rooms are booked solid by the Steelers and their families and ESPN, the hotel's first floor will remain open to the public. That means there's a chance you could spot your favorite Steeler dining at one of the five restaurants. The Packers are staying at the Omni Mandalay in Las Colinas. At the Chisholm Trail parking lot in Sundance Square, where ESPN will be broadcasting its coverage, crews have removed light poles and replaced them with power supplies for ESPN cameras. "Usually, the people that come and visit Fort Worth for the first time walk the streets, and they're very excited, and they look at what they see and say, 'Wow, this is fantastic.' And we're hoping this is an opportunity to introduce the city to the world," said Johnny Campbell, president and CEO of Sundance Square.

Barack Obama won't be attending the Super Bowl, but that doesn't mean he won't get a chance to see the Green Bay Packers in person. The president said he would go the Super Bowl if the Chicago Bears won the NFC championship (like he predicted), but his travel plans were altered when Charles Woodson(notes) and the Packers got the win at Soldier Field. No matter, says Woodson. The Packers will see Obama when they make their visit to Washington, D.C., as Super Bowl champions. In a locker room speech following the team's 21-14 victory, Woodson said referenced how the team altered Air Force One's itenirary. "The president don't want to come watch us win the Super Bowl?" he said. "Guess what? We'll go see him." (You can watch the clip at Packers.com.) The assembled Packers team responded with hoots and hollers before joining together to do a "1-2-3, White House" cheer. Good thing Tom Jackson isn't the president, or else he'd have come out today and said he only picked the Packers t...to victory. [Rewind: Obama talks some trash with Kobe] In retrospect, Obama announcing his intentions to go to the Super Bowl may have been the kiss of death for the Bears. The president has been a sort of sporting albatross to his adopted city since taking the oath of office. His last-minute speech to the IOC failed to deliver the 2016 Olympics, despite the fact that Chicago was a heavy favorite. The Bulls lost when he attended one of the team's games against the Washington Wizards in 2009, and the South Side White Sox were overpowered by Stephen Strasburg when Obama attended a Nationals game last June. It wasn't until the president left his seat that Chicago scored the game-winning run. Woodson's locker-room comments appeared to be in good fun, yet there was definitely a hint of "I told you so" in his words. He may get another chance to prove the president wrong in two weeks. Obama has said in the past that he's a Steelers fan. Can another anti-Packers pick be far behind?
