Proper way to ask for "Comp" tickets? So I'm on the Eboard of my college's radio station and I want to use that status to score some free tickets!!! What's the best way to go about asking the band/venue for complimentary tickets?? chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads |

What you're doing might be different. But if anyone asked me for comps to one of my shows, I'd give them a and never give them anything, ever again.
My comps are usually very limited. I try to be fair and spread them around to friends and family evenly. No one would ever be so gauche as to ask for them. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Yea I know what you mean! I have a friend who has a show on our station and apparently asked and got tickets to see Circa Survive I think and I don't know how to politely ask! Being a member of a school organization makes it a littl less gauche I hope chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads |

What is an Eboard? Are you an actual board member (ie, do you help determine policy or programming)? Or is an Eboard just a glorified fan club?
If it's the latter, I wouldn't even bother asking, frankly. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

We always got sign up sheets for stuff like that. But then again I worked for a large commercial station. What if you wanted comp tickets to give away on air? It's art and people get paid for their art, but if the band or whoever isn't paying for any advertising or anything, i'd EXPECT comp tickets.
I don't see anything wrong with comp tickets. We comp all DJ's at our conferences because they're important and they publicize us. Now, if a random person asked me, I'd say no and put you in time out. Sometimes I pay for the tickets, but that's if I know the person and I'm supporting their enterprises. |

Most definitely!
And let me re-phrase that, if the band is not paying for ads and they expect or ask for publicizing their event on your station, then yes, I would EXPECT tickets. |
