I don't have one anymore, but somebody mentioned something interesting recently that I hadn't thought of in a while. We were discussing emergency preparedness and the storing (or lack thereof) of supplies when they commented that they kept an old style phone (pre-cordless) because it didn't need electricity. In case of a major emergency, when you've lost your power and cell service is either out or jammed from overuse, there's a decent chance one of those old phones could still work (although I told them I remember that being hit and miss and that it might not work that way anymore). Is that enough to make me get a land line again? No! lol But they already had one, so that logic made perfect sense for them.

yeah someone said the same thing to me; it has to be a really old school phone like a rotary as mentioned above

but then, who could receive calls in such a situation? hmmm grandma?

Yes, but we get it free anyway.

And it plays the theme to Monty Python's Flying Circus when it rings and I jiggle around to it almost every time.

I had to keep my home phone through 2006 as the apartment I was living in at the time was in a basement and my cell just didn’t work there. Once I moved out I cancelled and haven’t looked back.

I'm just happy someone could use it after I'd gone.

I had the same home phone number for 26 years. Last year, when we switched from Comcast to AT&T, I decided to go completely cellular. We all have cell phones in my family, and it seemed like no one but telemarketers called the land line any more.

So I ditched my old phone number.

Ooops.

Turns out there WERE still people I knew that called it, and the recording they got was that the number was no longer a working number. They assumed that meant I couldn't afford the phone bill!

I turned those lemons into lemonade though, and used that as an excuse to quit paying for everyone's lunches. "Haven't you heard? I can't afford my phone bill. So pay for your own lunch this time!"

I still have a land line. When I'm at home, I greatly prefer using it.

I think a lot of my friends think I'm outdated for having one.

I just figured out this evening that our land line is interfering with our new home security system, so I guess it's time to say adios to our home phone!

During a hurricane them cellphones ain't worth a damn, but nine times out of ten the land line still works. I prefer using it at home anyways because the sound is better and calls don't get dropped.

It's a necessary expense down here.

My husband and I each have cell phones, but we still have our land line. The land line is pretty useless, though, since we ditched caller I'd and long distance. I don't know why we don't just give it up.

after I get my cell phone, and if I manage to use it, I think we will ditch our landline. Or maybe I should wait until my grandma passes on? hmmm

Talk to the phone company. The number becomes available when you give it up. See if it can become your cell number.

i need to cancel mine, but we have dish and DSL. If ATT can not get me DSL with out a home phone and if dish can not wave the fee for not having a phone connected I will be canceling both.

I have Dish Network and DSL thru ATT you don't need a phone line with them. However, you do have to reroute your DSL line outside your house if you get rid of your phone.
