Awards Season is Here & it's Time to Talk FASHION: CHAPTER ONE- Golden Globes Red Carpet 2011

As we grow nearer to Oscar time, the red carpet fashions in Hollywood get serious as we see our favorite celebs dusted off and spit shined for one of the most important photo-ops of the year- The Golden Globes. In years past, the dearly departed CalhounSquare could always be depended on to start the ball rolling on the org for the dish on who wore what to where this time of year, but in lieu of her absence...let's carry the tradition on! Here they are, the good, the bad, and the just plain ugly, red carpet snippets from The Golden Globes 2011! Discuss! martini martini martini

Natalie Portman (Viktor & Rolf)

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt (Atelier Versace & Versace)

Anne Hathaway (Armani Privé)

Michelle Williams (Valentino)

Emma Stone (Calvin Klein)

Kyra Sedgewick & Kevin Bacon (Emilio Pucci)

Julianne Moore (Lanvin)

Halle Berry (Nina Ricci)

Juliana Marguilies (Vintage YSL )

Helena Bonham Carter (Vivienne Westwood)

January Jones (Atelier Versace)

Best: Natalie Portman and Juliana Marguilies were my fave looks of the evening. Gorgeous, classy, beautiful.

Worst: Halle looked like she was trying to be 20 and was attending the VMAs and January Jones’s dress was just WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Everyone else was “eh”. I hate the weird pointy shoulder trend (looks bad on everyone) and what was up with everyone wearing emerald green? And LOTS of ladies were dressing for the wrong age, either too old or too young.

HATED Anne Hathaway’s look too. Bleh.

OH - and LOTS of bad hair. Scarlett Johannson especially.

And lastly - special mention to J-Lo. I thought she looked lovely too, though nothing over the top. She looked well put together and age appropriate. I'm not usually a fan of hers either.

I love Emma Stone. That is a great look for her, and that dress is fabulous.

I love Michelle Williams too, but that's not a great look for her.

Julianne Moore--what happened? Yikes. That's a terrible dress.

Julianna Margulies has the best dress, I think. She looks amazing. Obviously Helena Bonham Carter has the worst. Yuck. And January Jones is so pretty but that dress still manages to be really unflattering on her.

Oh goodness. How could I forget Tilda Swinton!

I don’t even know where to begin with TIlda. From that monstrosity she’s wearing to her pronouncing “tv movie” as “televisual movie”. Twice. falloff

And poor Tina Fey. She really is a very pretty woman but whoever dresses her can’t pick a gown to save their lives. Navy blue velvet with ruffly “sleeves”? hmm Really? And why can’t anyone make her hair look nice when she’s all dressed up?

Ooooh...now it's getting interesting! Some of these could very well have been saved for the Oscars...some...not.

Eva Longoria (Zac Pozen)

Julie Bowen (Tadashi Shoji)

Christina Hendricks (Romona Keveza)

Jennifer Lopez (Zuhair Murad)

Heidi Klum & Seal (Marc Jacobs)

Kelly Osbourne (Zac Pozen)

THE GOOD:

BEST DRESSED: Piper Perabo in Oscar De LaRenta drool perfection from head to toe.

Olivia Wilde (though I woud've preferred the hair up). And did you see her shoes??? faint

Claire Danes

Emma Stone

Scarlet Johansen- I thought she looked lovely. A bit old (like if Helen Mirren or Meryl can wear it, it's probably too old for you), but she still looked pretty. I loved her hair most of all.

J Lo looked stunning as always.

Viva la Fonda! clapping

THE COULDA-SHOULDA'S

Anne Hathaway's Armani Prive dress was faint but she needed sexier makeup and hair. Her makeup should've been more like Eva Langoria's. Her blah hair detracted from that amazing gown. pout

Tilda Swinton looked good from the neck up (maybe even the waist if you could figure out where it was), but that out fit was a train wreck. If she'd worn a top like that (I don't know if it was separates or one dress) with some sharp pants, and statement shoes she would've been AMAZING.

Angelina Jolie...loved the dress, hated the hair. HATED it. yawn

The chick from Mad Men in the green Donna Karan. That dress should've been VAVAVOOM!, but not with that taking-the-kids-to-the-mall-after-work hair.

THE BAD:

Helena, Helena, Helena disbelief
Gorgeous woman, looked like a clown threw up on her ass on the way to the show. sigh

Sandra Bullock. neutral That wig was eating her head before our very eyes. shake And don't get me started on the granny dress.

Michelle Williams- The short hair was rockin love (very Rosemary's Baby), but that dress. You're going to an awards ceremony, not a sunday afternoon hippy beach wedding.

Milla Jovovich hrmph

THE WTF???

Annette Benning, was that hair on purpose?? neutral

My Julianne Moore...bawl

What the hell's going on with Sandra Bullock? Not a good 'do!

I totally heart Jennifer Lawrence. She's rocking that dress. I think she's going to be a huge star.

She really pulled that dress off. She exuded an attitude (not in a bad way) that made it work.

I love what the new/fairly new starlets brought to the show. Mila Kunis looks great too.

On another note, why does Christina Hendricks always do that one same pose? Is it supposed to be vixenish, or is she trying to hide her chin?

Natalie Portman (Viktor & Rolf) Horrible. Looks like someone shot her through the heart.

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt (Atelier Versace & Versace)

Meh. Nice to see her something other than black, though.

Anne Hathaway (Armani Privé)

Gorgeous, as always. But what's she smuggling in her sleeves?

Michelle Williams (Valentino)

Oooooh... love it when someone wears the tablecloth.

Emma Stone (Calvin Klein)

The dress is okay, I guess. But somebody feed her a sandwich already.

Kyra Sedgewick & Kevin Bacon (Emilio Pucci)

Horrible color - and it makes her look pregnant.

Julianne Moore (Lanvin)

Wow. Hideous. Just...no.

Halle Berry (Nina Ricci)

Tacky.

Juliana Marguilies (Vintage YSL )

Normally, I like a pink and black dress. And YSL (vintage YSL, especially).
But not this pink and black dress.
Especially not with black shoes.

Helena Bonham Carter (Vivienne Westwood)

What can you say? HBC is always HBC.

January Jones (Atelier Versace)

No.

Mila Jovovich (Armani Privé)

Juliane Hough (Marchesa)

Gabby Sidibe (Marc Bouwer)

Julia Stiles (Romona Keveza)

Edie Falco (Valentino)

Tried to find full length pics of Vanessa williams and Alicia Keys, but it looks like I'll be able to find a pork chop sandwich in the Middle East before a pic of those two surface on the net. mad

Mila looked a hot mess when she hit the stage. And for some reason I thought she looked tremendous (for her) during the telecast. Not as in fat, just as in...I don't know, huge. lol

Then she had some cheesy pose goin on.

Gabi- I hate to compare big gurrl with big gurrl...but I will lol

I was much more about Glee's Amber Riley's look than Gabi's.

Once again, if the dress looks like Helen Miren (who was, surprisingly, a mess last night) could wear it...it's too old for you

Some of these ladies really need to be taught posture and how to wear their gowns.

Aha...Vanessa surfaces...but this gown is actually a more salmon/pinkish color than what's showing up here:

...is anyone else growing weary of the one shoulder look yet? The dress is pretty, but this silhouette is beginning to fatigue me.

The Fug Girls' description is priceless:

Okay, we're pretty sure she didn't ride to the Globes in a Mustang, but it appears entirely possible that Scarlett spent the entire commute to the Beverly Hilton hanging out the limo window, and then finished her coiffure by squatting under a hand-dryer in the ladies' room. Her hair is so bad, it renders the dress beside the point.

Oh I know she was doing "Annette" hair, but there's a very obvious decline from her normal mousse-fest. That hair is beyond tragic.

I didn't care for Lea's look (it screamed prom), and God knows I love me some Oscar. cry

Jennifer is growing into her forties so nicely. I thought those babies would have put a whoopin' on that face and body but she's looking better and better than I ever would have expected for a bootylicious woman bearing twins at 35+!

Here's the dress from a bit closer, that bangle love :

but that's don't think she stopped there: Miss thing had an ensemble change for the after parties. Not everyone can rock ostrich feathers, but I think she can, and it brings me fond memories of the Auntie Mames and Holly Golightlys in the world mushy
