I've been stuck in the house since Sunday night.

The city is shut down.

How many inches are on the ground? You OK, Graycap?

It's not that Southerners are snow spooked but what the hell can you do when the cities

aren't equipped for proper cleanup. Trust me it's no damn fun ice skating in a SUV. lol

nod Without snow tires. Most Southern cities aren't logistically prepared to handle significant amounts of snow/ice, if any. Dallas shut down yesterday from 2-3 inches and many were stranded on the highways because they sanded the roads early in the morning then it was washed away by rain that then froze. Folks couldn't move on the overpasses for hours. disbelief

We're equipped for proper cleanup in NYC and they still screwed up the first big snowstorm. We're supposed to get another big one starting tonight.

It also sucks that too many mfers don't know how to drive in bad weather. Dumbasses act like it's mid-summer on the road.

Do you work from your home, GC? If not, I'm assuming that your employer is sympathetic to you being snowbound.

I'm in the atl metro too. Was supposed to report for jury duty this week. No duty. I was out of town for the weekend and literally got home 30 minutes before the snow hit. Yesterday and today feel like the weekend for me. My guy, not so much. He's pretty irritated right now.

I feel y'all... to a point. Even though Southern U.S. cities aren't armed with big fleets of plows, salt trucks and what not, I imagine individual citizens can get ahold of their own shovels, snow tires and a couple bags of salt, right? I imagine that stuff may cost you more down there, and I appreciate your streets and highways still won't be perfect, but at 2-3 inches, y'all shoudn't be scrambling like a bomb dropped. razz

I appreciate relativity, though. About 10 years back, Toronto was so ill prepared for the 25+ inches of snow that fell in about 3 or 4 days that they called in the Canadian Army for assistance! They brought in like 400 troops, tanks, the whole nine! doh! We still catch the side eye from the rest of Canada over that one, and one local comedian coined a term “Torontarded" to describe the folk here.

hah! Now ya'll ain't got NO excuse.

But, shovels?! What the hell are those??? Typically, it snows MAYBE once a year or every 2-3 years. Folks aren't gonna spend extra money for supplies or equipment they're not gonna use regularly. In reality the snow isn't the issue, it's the ice. I think that because of our warmer ground temps the snow tends to start melting but then refreezes overnight turning the highways into skating rinks for the morning commute. Also, driving in inclement weather definitely takes practice and most folks down here have trucks and SUVs, which don't go well with icy roads. shake

I just saw that on Boston's news, Carrie. We're supposed to get hit with that same storm system, but we'll only get 4-6 inches near Lake Ontario over the next few days, and about 2-3 farther north in the city.

Stay warm!

I actually had a dream last night that we were snowed in and I got like a bunch of shovels to take the snow/ice off the grass and road. lol

yesterday was absurd! the normal 67 minute drive across Dallas took me 4 flipping hours! And I noticed very little ice. Most of it was so thin that just driving a little slow and staying off the breaks was all you needed to do. but the worst of it seemed to have come off people's cars as they drove, the snow fell off in sheets, melted a bit as it was run over and then refroze.

Oh well my job was not mad and I did not get docked! woo hoo!

To be honest this is why I hate the beginning of any year, the first two or three months you have nothing but snow and ice. Hell we got it before Christmas but we weren't snowed in (thank God). It's pleasant to have snow but not ice. Ice will turn the power off especially if ice is as deep as I'm hearing it is in the ATL. After March, things calm down. lol

We get 'em to survive here and farther north. But truth be told, fools up here can't drive them either. I've heard tow truck drivers say they make the most money off of people who think because they've got some gigantic SUV, snow tires and 4-wheel drive they're indestructible. They're constantly being pulled from having rolled off the side of some highway in the middle of Ontario's winter disbelief
