ALL ABOUT NAILS......

cloud9 Nothing like some pretty nails. Medium, short, bedazzled, accented, ghetto long or plain and buffed...it's all good!

Who likes a full set? wave

French Manicure is always good to go:

However, come my next vacation I am going rogue!!!

sad I can't go to salons... see, I have triangular shaped nail beds. My nails are thin so when I get my nails done... they last for three-four days. The acrylic usually peels off with the thin nail. One time I lost both entire pinky nails because I picked up grocery bags and my nails were curled in my fists. If I ball up my fists with acrylics on, the entire nails pop out the nail bed since my nail beds are so small. Bummer.

I hate having such thin nails... but I still do them at home and give myself regular paraffin treatments keep my nails on the shorter side.... I have no choice really. Triangular shaped nails aren't that attractive when they grow out. neutral

I get the UV gel w/ polish every 2 weeks.

They're red this time...

I'd take a picture of them, but I had an unfortunate "bathroom stall lock" incident at MSG that left my thumbnail jacked up. boxed

Plus, my regular mani/pedi appt. is Friday. wink

Aw damn gurl. hug It sounds painful when the nails come off. Can you wear a silk wrap over your nails?

I used to wear my fiberglass a little longer than is recommended. I used to have to rehab my natural nails. My own nail would get really thin like paper underneath and they're a bitch to grow out. I'm finally on a more regular maintenance program; nails done every two weeks with the fiberglass being taken off after about 6 weeks and a rest period of 3 months before I put the fiberglass back on. I'm told acrylic is better for your nails because it keeps water from getting underneath and causing fungus but acrylic is too heavy for me. I like a lightweight feeling on my nails - like there's nothing there.

Is that supposed to go over or under the polish? I did it over black polish and it turned my polish dark blue- and not a sexy dark blue...more like a dark blue with a green cast. sad

The gel comes first, then you can polish over it.

My sister just keeps it clear. Her nails look so clean and neat.

My nails are naturally almost paper thin, and the nail bed is teeny. So there is NO room for excessive buffing or smoothing out that is required when you do any kind of over lay for my nails.

I found this out the hard way... they file/buff the cuticle area down through the nail quickly and hit the flesh underneath, leaving my entire nails vulnerable to falling off completely at the slightest tug.

So I can only do hand buffers and polish only, but I mostly go for the hand massages and parrafin treatments. cloud9

I get my "hands" done and not my nails so much. lol

I am very unhappy. My job makes me cut my nails. Short. They used to be long and beautiful, but now they're short and stubby and ugly.

It was hard to find pics, because I'm not one of those people who specifically takes pictures of their nails every time they get them done. 'Cause, well, I'm not lame. So these were quickly cropped out of a couple pictures. This was the best I could muster.

Covering my face in this one:

Grabbing my collarbone in the manor that I tend to do:

And again:

These were my MSG 12/19 nails. batting eyes

Cuttin' a cake.

Boring french.

Short and ugly. But pretty designs. smile

I've had every color, every design, rhinestones, dangles, earings pierced into them... you name it, I've had it. I've been doing this shit for 8 years.

And yes. I'll admit a deep dark secret. I've had the cliche, ghetto nails -- they were SUPER long, dollar bill pieces with the gel on top, rhinestones, glitter, and on my ring finger... I had a dangle with two translucent red dice hanging about an inch off the tip. I wish I had the photo evidence.

Acrylic: You consider those nails short? eek

Every time mine get to that length, I get them cut.

As a teacher and grad student, I need to be able to type and write (and Org batting eyes).

Plus, I just think it's more professional...

I SO wish I had a picture, lol. I was a hot mess. lol

Here's a pretty acurate portrayal. This isn't me, but imagine similar to this -- about the same length, except with twice as any rhinestones, gold glitter, and the dice. That was the fuckery that I rocked, haha.

I've had all types of metal/plastic dangles. The dice, and then there were stars, hearts, butterflies, initials, playing cards, playboy bunnies, lips, hoops (think Janet Jackson in that Busta Rhymes video).. you name it.

Yeah; I'm used to them long.

I do graphic design, so that entails being at a computer constantly. I'm going to school to get my license for it, but I'm self taught and have been doing it for years. I find it easier to type with my longer ones than I do these short ones.

Unfortunately, my boss at my dead-end job that I'm forced to work at while in school bitches and moans and complains; so I have to keep them short.

I have a full set of acrylics - but I refuse to take a picture because I need a fill. And because they're pink right now, which I hate. (Had to do a color that was right for the character I'm playing - Sarah owns my nails right now.)

I usually wear red or a red-based purple, but have to change the color for theatrical purposes fairly often. My nail tech (Bob) always looks at the pink (or French or whatever) that I have to do for a part and says, "That not your color." whofarted

I'm trying to stretch out my time between fills right now so I only have to do the pink twice. The day after our show closes, I'll be in there getting my red or purple again. hmph!

My own nails are crap and always have been. I went with the acrylics because they're more durable than the gels (for me, anyway).

When I had them put on (over two years ago), I was debating one versus the other. Bob told me the acrylics longer lasting - and are less expensive. Sold. lol

I'm very luck cuz I have long nailbeds so even when they're short when I paint them the nails look long. Anytime I go to a new nail salon they go on and on about my long fingers and nail beds. I didn't know that was such a big deal. lol

The only colors I use are:

Spring/Summer

Fiji Wiji Fawn rocking this since 2004

Fiji Weejee Fawn

Fall/Summer

Bogota Blackberry rocking this since 1996 but this pic is really pink when the actual color is more burgundy
