I thought he was a really good host even though some of his jokes came off as mean and cruel, but shucks...he did tell the truth after all. Guess people still can't handle it in this day and age. shrug Otherwise if he'd conformed to Hollywood's boring fascade of acing "properly" that show would had been even more boring than what it already was.

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Well so much for that. giggle

http://www.huffingtonpost...09967.html

Rob Shuter of PopEater reports that one Hollywood Foreign Press Association (they put on and vote for the awards) told him that Gervais will not return as host -- and won't ever get nominated for a Golden Globe, either.

"Ricky will not be invited back to host the show next year, for sure," the HFPA member said. "For sure any movie he makes he can forget about getting nominated. He humiliated the organization last night and went too far with several celebrities whose representatives have already called to complain."

Anyhoo, I didn't find him, all that funny but I didn't find him all that offensive either. When did Hollywood, of all places, get so thin-skinned? shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I didn't watch it live, but I don't see anything wrong with the clip. I think he's a funny guy. And screw the stars who can't take a joke. Not to mention the Golden Globes/Foreign Press, who are a joke in and of themselves.

the few bits I saw were funny. I can not belive all the cry babies that are made over it. *but I did not see all of it*

if you do not want jokes told about how much you drink or party or hire hookers or do drugs...then do not do them! it is easy.

Some of it was a bit mean & unfunny, like the stuff about the Tourist.

But the Tim Allen remark was pretty funny, if totally cruel. And the one about Sandra Bullock, Hugh Hefner..very funny!

I thought most of it was a over the top, unfunny and cruel. He mentioned Robert Downey Jr.'s drug problems, when those were quite a while ago.

Most of all though, it seemed awkward - as if he was writing it on the spot.

the Robert Downey one is a little dated at this point. That was a long time ago.

Ricky Gervais is big, but not so much in America. Check out Extras, very good show.

I thought last year was funny, but found this year to be much more mean-spirited (although still very funny most of the time). I think that's why they usually don't have people host these things every year. Give them a year or two off in between to let more "stuff" happen in the world. That way he could have been more topical and less personal.

I don't see what the big deal is. the "hollywood foreign press" is a sham. know who one of the hollywood foreign press is?...a writer for a russian weightlifting magazine.

Pia Zadora once won for best actress for her role in the movie butterfly, because her husband bought the press off.

What does that have to do with busting the balls of the people in the room and/or the presenters? He wasn't ripping on the HFP.

Ricky Gervais has caught alot of unmerited (in my opinion) criticism for his jokes at the GG's. As with the Oscars, I'm not sure just how much input he had as to the jokes, and I think they got what they paid for. The GG's is supposed to be more 'freewheeling" than the oscars

I get the feeling that what worked last year was the same thing that people thought went too far this year. It's refreshing when people say what we're all thinking, but it's walking a fine line.

But I thought he was funny this year too, but maybe he was trying just a bit too hard.

If I'm being completely honest, I think RDJ's a smug, pretentious, disingenous douchebag, so I enjoyed it. If the joke was at the expense of somebody I liked, I'd probably feel differently.

In other words: I'm human.

Most of these skin-puppets (great word for which I cannot take credit) take themselves way too fucking seriously. You recite a bunch of lines that somebody else wrote (usually in a manner that would never pass for naturalistic, in a real environment) and you probably got the job because you happened to 'hit the genetic jackpot' (as Angie Everhart so astutely put it). ...Not to mention that most scripted films and TV shows are probably, ultimately, harmful to the populace, anyways.

So, suck it up, folks. If you didn't realize that the slings and arrows were not sold separately from the outrageous fortune, there's certainly nothing keeping you in the game.

I think it was Ivette, from Big Brother 6 (US) - one of my favorite seasons - who said, "'Tough titty,' said the kitty, 'but the milk's still good.'?

I don't think he really is a comedian, he is more of a writer & actor, but he did do a comedy show that was excellent (if you like his style, which not everyone does)
