Any good shows on Broadway right now?

Okay, NYC peeps, I'm planning my annual theatre trip to the city and need input about what hot shows are out right now. Usually, there's a plethora of shows I wanna see but for some reason I'm not moved by anything right now. I usually squeeze 3 shows into 4 days. Lemme know what you know good. cool

Spiderman does look interesting but I wouldn't make the trip JUST to see that one. It could be one of my 3 tho.

Last year, I had so much to chose from. I saw Fela, Memphis, and Race and woulda saw Denzel in Fences if I'd had more time. This year, not so many options. pout

Did you like Race? I felt it was immensely disappointing. And kind of ridiculous.

As for plays to see, if you're here before the end of the month, you might want to consider Time Stands Still with Laura Linney. Also, the guys who created South Park are doing The Book of Mormon, which is of interest to me but maybe not everybody else. And I haven't seen or heard much about La Bete, but I like the cast.

Overall, it was okay. I expected more from David Mamet But I really liked David Alan Grier's performance. But JohnBoy (Richard Thomas) can't act and James Spader was aight.

I'm shooting for April. I like Laura Linney but I can't fuck with NYC in the winter. lol

Who's in La Bete?

La Bete has Mark Rylance, David Hyde Pierce, and Joanna Lumley (Patsy from AbFab). I just want to see it for her alone. biggrin

Race to me felt way outdated. Oddly so for a Mamet play. Worse, I saw it with the new cast (still Richard Thomas though) and they hadn't learned all their lines. It was painful at times.

hmmm That sounds interesting. For the right cast I could care less what a play's about. I love the chance to see tv/movie actors strut their stuff on stage. Watching Laurence Fishburne from the front row doing Thurgood Marshall was AMAZING!

I didn't know Race was still running. You're right it seemed like it should be set in the 60s. I think I read an explanation about that but I can't remember the details. David Spader fucked up some of his lines too but he had his moments and Kerry Washington held her own. But in hindsight, I woulda went to Fences instead which had started previews the same week.
