You laugh, but I live across the street from a liquor store. When we had our last BIG storm that stopped the buses from running and caused the state patrol to actually call the taxis off the road (a big deal in Minneapolis), every time I went to my window to look out at the storm there were people trudging through it all to and from the liquor store. It was open through the entire thing. At one point I saw 3 people trying to push a car OUT of their parking lot. I just laughed. He should have known you WALK to the liquor store in a storm.

When Darin and a big group of my friend all lived within a mile of each other in Uptown it was our tradition to all walk to the nearest bar to hole up for the storm together. lol

It’s just what we cold weather dwellers do. neutral

Yes, they are both still open, but I don’t really go out anymore. I can’t remember the last time I was at the 90’s. My niece is now 20 and she goes to the 90’s on occasion on 18+ night. She and her friends have invited me to go with them and I said NO WAY. That makes me feel far too old. lol neutral

You know the average Californian can barely drive in the rain. lol It sounds like the ice is way worse than snow. About a week ago there was snow on the grapevine (stretch of highway into So Cal, Los Angeles area), which caused highway closure for a time. I wish we would get one or two days of snow a year at sea level in the Bay Area, but not too much to shut everything down. Just enough to say awww...and take pics. Otherwise, you gotta go to Lake Tahoe, or a mountain to get snow in CA.

So true. Especially when we keep having drought years in between the wet ones. I've lived in several places that actually get yearly weather and it never ceases to amaze me how rain in the Bay Area triggers most peoples stupid instincts. disbelief

You don't have to wait until the spring for tornadoes anymore. This is the craziest damned weather I've ever seen. Snow flurries for about an hour on Christmas day, temperatures in the 70s the week after Christmas, six tornadoes on New Year's Eve (one in which I barely escaped), an ice storm the following week, and now 18 degree temperatures. What's next, a hurricane? lol

Hurricanes don't last long in the winter cold. cool

It's funny how when some of us were younger we wanted snow so bad, then we get older, we started hating it. lol

When I saw snow outside my house last month, I was actually pissed but glad that we had no steep ice to worry about. I think the snow was an inch where I live. I think we had snow again like the beginning of this month too.

It's not that Southerners are snow spooked but what the hell can you do when the cities

aren't equipped for proper cleanup. Trust me it's no damn fun ice skating in a SUV. lol

We started out in Northeast PA in the mountains with tons of snow every winter. Even here in the DC area (I guess technically south, tho barely) it's a mess everytime there's snow. Folk don't even know to put the damn plow all the way down to the ground. Like, wtf, you just fannin the snow?? confused

But folk here drive a damn mess. Even if it just sprinkles (rain, not even snow) there's pile ups on the beltway. neutral

Keep safe down there y'all.

nod And not just on the beltway. Simply driving in the city these aholes are idiots in the rain. They tend to forget that when rain mixes with all the gunk built up on roads, oil etc., they can still be slick as ice.

someone needs to make a snow conversation chart.

in taxes 1/8 of an inch is equivalent to 2 feet in other states.

(check engen light is blinking! I am hoping it is just in need of new plugs and wires, but it has 289K miles so it might be time for something else?)

there was ice yesterday on 75! some yahoo must have left the ice on the top of his car and not bothered to knock it off so when it fell off as he was driving it made a ice patch.

But for people who normally don't get snow or not much of it, it does wreck havoc for those not used to driving in it.

How is it you feel?
