I'd say take the cutest guy you can find -- but only as an accessory to the cutest dress you can find. Most prom couple of which I'm aware kinda split and did their own thing all night, anyway: guys holding up the walls with their buds; girls hanging (and having a much better time) with their girlfriends.

I made up for missing my prom with a lot of sorority formals. I always had the dress before the date. lol

Someday, I'll post those pictures. I looked fabulous. nod

I went with one of my best friends. I'm gay and she's lesbian, although we weren't out to each other at the time, but needless to say it was a platonic affair. We doubled with another gay friend and the lone straight girl in our tightknit gang. We were all good friends and had the time of our lives at it.

So, yes, I recommend going with friends. More than just the dance and all that, I remember how much fun it was at that age to get dressed up and go out to a fancy restaurant and order a nice meal.

We played all that up to the hilt.

I didn't enjoy my prom and yet I am glad that I went. It is sort of a right of passage I guess. I remember a few things about that night still, 30 years later.

Ah prom...I remember mine...

I went to my prom with a friend of mine I never really got along with. We were lab partners, and we fought a lot. Pretty much all we did was fight. Not a word came out of his mouth that wasn't dripping with sarcasm. But hey, I wanted to go to prom with someone who wasn't gonna feel me up or gross me out. So that's when I decided to go with someone I didn't really get along with...but who?? hmmm

So when I found out that two weeks before prom, his gf dumped him, it was just too perfect. The entire chem class witnessed me ask him out (yelled across the room "Hey Matt...wanna go to prom together?"). And all he said was "what colour is your dress so I can match it to my tie". touched

I made my dress because I didn't want to show up and have some girl in the same dress I had. razz Played it classy... and for the first time ever....he actually complimented me. And he looked rather handsome in his tuxedo. He wasn't a half bad dancer either (with a little coaxing....actually...make that a LOT. He was so shy.)

At the end of the night, it was really fun. I had a great time, and so did he. He actually thanked me and gave me a hug. mushy

He's now about to get married but has admitted he stalks my facebook profile regularly. eek lol

Oh well, in any case, I'd advise you to go and have a great time! Don't be afraid to ask the guy out. Just remember...it's your night. Make the most of it. biggrin

I went to my boyfriend at the time's prom at another school for his senior prom (I was a junior). I wanted this $400 dress but I knew my parents wouldn't have brought it so I found a nice long black dress and we added some white sheer material that draped the back. It was the first time I got my nails done. I did my own make up and had my hair done by a professional. My hair was horrible! It was fingerwaved in the front and curls in the back! I didn't look like myself. Anyway, my date came to get me and it was perfect. He had my corsage ready and he gave it to me when we went to take pictures at his parents' house. We went eat out and ended up at the Prom. We had a nice time. We didn't dance though sad We did take pictures. Where are the pictures? I have no idea.

For my senior prom - it was a day in hell. I went with someone who was supposed to be my boyfriend at the time confused He came over late to pick me up. His colors didn't match mine. I wore navy blue (I couldn't find a good fitting prom dress in white), he wore light aqua blue confused , he didn't have a corsage! I made him go and get one 35 mins away at a store. He gave me a red carnation corsage confused . In honestly, I would've rather have gone by myself. sad We didn't go out to eat sad we went to my prom and almost missed the cut off time when they would've locked us out. We were supposed to walk in together hand in hand b/c they filmed the participants. He walked in before me and left me in the dust confused All on film! He didn't go to high school with me and didn't know anyone. We did dance one song and that was it. Where is our pictures we took? I'm sure someone has a copy but I don't want to see that again. My hair was horrible again! I didn't have a good time at all. Days later, the prom was shown to the whole school and people laughed at my date when he zoomed through the doors leaving me in the dust! Horrible experience!

Only go if you are going to have fun with a bunch of people! If your date is a bore or you have a date just to say you have a date - don't go with that person. Go by yourself and have fun fun fun! wink

Um... let me warm up my vocals

I went only because I didn't want to regret going. It was boring and a big waste of money for me. None of the guys I had a crush on/stalked were there. I think prom is probably better when you associate with a lot of people at your school. My friends and I were not very social with a lot of the other students. But the dressing up and taking pictures part of it was fun. Too bad I looked like a drag queen but while I was taking the pictures, I thought I looked cute.

Shake it til ya make it dancing jig
