lol There used to be a GREAT website called Mullets Galore that had a ton of different names for mullets. Unfortunately, when I just went to take a look at it right now it says it's been "switched off". cry

And I'd post a pic from that time period, but I don't think I have any of that quality. Pretty sure I have a couple from when I shaved the sides of my head. But I had really long hair, so it's hard to tell.

lol It's from the movie Heavy Metal, which I used to sit around and watch in a not very sober state during those high school years, so it's kind of appropriate. I never though I'd find it online, but here it is! Always made my friends and I laugh, so we started saying it and it stuck.

Ah prom...I remember mine...

I went to my prom with a friend of mine I never really got along with. We were lab partners, and we fought a lot. Pretty much all we did was fight. Not a word came out of his mouth that wasn't dripping with sarcasm. But hey, I wanted to go to prom with someone who wasn't gonna feel me up or gross me out. So that's when I decided to go with someone I didn't really get along with...but who?? hmmm

So when I found out that two weeks before prom, his gf dumped him, it was just too perfect. The entire chem class witnessed me ask him out (yelled across the room "Hey Matt...wanna go to prom together?"). And all he said was "what colour is your dress so I can match it to my tie". touched

I made my dress because I didn't want to show up and have some girl in the same dress I had. razz Played it classy... and for the first time ever....he actually complimented me. And he looked rather handsome in his tuxedo. He wasn't a half bad dancer either (with a little coaxing....actually...make that a LOT. He was so shy.)

At the end of the night, it was really fun. I had a great time, and so did he. He actually thanked me and gave me a hug. mushy

He's now about to get married but has admitted he stalks my facebook profile regularly. eek lol

Oh well, in any case, I'd advise you to go and have a great time! Don't be afraid to ask the guy out. Just remember...it's your night. Make the most of it. biggrin

I went to 2 proms: When I was a sophomore dating a senior, and my own senior prom....

I had a better time at his. hrmph

My date's mother wouldn't let him have a black tux, because she thought it was "too old", so she made him wear a white jacket. He looked like a freakin' WAITER! pissed

He couldn't dance, and was goofy as hell...

I'm from NJ, so you "go down the shore" the next day... but it rained. So my friend and I blew the guys off and went to the mall. lol

I had an OK time and I'm glad I went, but it's definitely not all it's cracked up to be. As someone above said, if it's not your thing, I wouldn't be too worried about making sure to attend.

But if it interests you at all, it can be really fun. I'd have probably had more fun if I'd have gone with friends instead of my stupid boyfriend who wouldn't dance and mostly sulked all night. lol I think we even argued most of the night after the dance part and generally had a pretty lame evening.

A lame and fuzzy shot: (lol)

I'd go, but only because you'll always regret it if you don't.

Avoid: spending a ton of money, getting intoxicated, having sex, drama. You have your entire adult life to do stupid stuff like that.

Just laugh with your friends and dance and make it a worthy memory.

I didn't go to mine, but I was persuaded to accompany my friend Kalimah at hers in the graduation class just after mine. Her famiy was Muslim and, while not what I'd call "conservative," they were very socially modest. Her mom thought I, unlike the vast majority of guys at our school, was cute, clean and stylish, well spoken, respectful of women -- i.e. gay -- so I was considered "safe" for her daughter.

I made it known upfront that I didn't want to go, that I don't like to dance, that I despised everyone who'd be there and that I wasn't too keen on paying for anything. I was assured none of that was an issue. Long story short, we went, I was a stick in the mud (though I looked darned good cool ) and I ruined my friend's experience. sad Further, our photographer was an idiot, so everyone's pictures came out completely silhouetted. disbelief (I'm told girls were bawling at the high school when they found out days later.) THEN, after the prom, my friend's mom refused to rent a limo or car... or let us carpool with friends... or let us drive ourselves around in her or my parents' vehicles, so we ended up being taxied around all night in a big ol' hoopty van with about 4 or 5 of my friend's siblings, aged 1 to 12. Imagine all that crying and fighting! shake I recall we were gonna go to Denny's or something, but we ended up just heading home evenutally. I was never reimbursed for the price of my tux.

It was an EPIC catastrophe that effectively ended my friendship. If I ever run into Kalimah again, I'd apologize for being a part of that all. rose

Um... all that said lol , you should GO, believe it or not!!! Good or bad, it's a formative memory of which you shouldn't cheat yourself. You've earned a night to be celebrated, and you and your friends (assuming they want to be there) will likely have a great time, leaving you with stories to tell for years. nod Enjoy the night!

Never go with a date.

You'll have more fun that way.

Wear a dress you can dance in and wear heels that look good.

Spend lots of money on proper underwear and spank PLEASE! No flabby muffin pics, you need a SMOOTH look in your gown. No belly lumps or bra/panty lines.

Stay away from shiny fabrics and choose a dress for its construction as well as style that suits your personality.

Don't take too many pictures of your backside.... TACKY! No hand on hip pics either, get candid shots of you doing things fun and get pics of you being made up n stuff. FUN!

Always take enough money for a cab fare home. heart

Now make some memories!

Don't worry... if I do go:

-I won't have a date because boys are too afraid to approach me lol

- I already decide on a short loose dress

-I have to worry more on my ribs showing than my "muffin" wink

- My backside isn't very pleasant and I don't have hands..just kiddin lol

You should definitely go with a group of friends.

Back when I was in high school, nobody went stag to the prom. (I'm not sure it was actually forbidden, but nobody did.) You had to have a date - and it had to be an opposite sex date, at that. (So gay and lesbian kids were left out, too.)

The prom was on my 18th birthday, so I would have been "legal" that night and everything (the drinking age was 18 then). But I ended up going to a very posh dinner with my parents instead. I had fun (and wore a gorgeous Oscar de la Renta dress), but it was definitely somewhat disappointing not to have gone.

I'd say take the cutest guy you can find -- but only as an accessory to the cutest dress you can find. Most prom couple of which I'm aware kinda split and did their own thing all night, anyway: guys holding up the walls with their buds; girls hanging (and having a much better time) with their girlfriends.

I made up for missing my prom with a lot of sorority formals. I always had the dress before the date. lol
