all major leagues...should follow what the nfl does, which is to have classes specifically for rookies (who are usually in there late teens or early 20's and probably haven't taken many business courses) which not only try to teach the rooks how to hire a good money manager, and not to blow ALL their salaries on jewelry, houses and cars in their first season, but also how to avoid unscrupulous women, etc.
oddly enough, there is a website for women who want to hook up with atheletes. there's a question and answer board, listings for what hotels the teams stay in, and the best way to hook up with athletes |

GOOD.
Fuck Rumeal Robinson.
What he did had nothing to do with fiscal ignorance.
He STOLE from his adoptive mother, Helen Ford, and scammed her out of her home!
Helen was one of the security officers at my high school, and everyone knew her. She was tough and took no shit, but was so, so caring. She looked out for all of us, and took many kids in to her home. Rumeal was one of them. Helen adopted him, cared for him and supported him throughout his career. He repaid her with unconscionable betrayal and thievery. It's what you make it. |

While I agree about the rookie financial counseling part, Rumeal Robinson wasn't a rookie. In fact, this happened after his NBA career was over. Though based on what he was convicted of, which was borrowing money for one purpose and using it for personal expenses, he was just dumb enough to get caught. It probably doesn't help that he is an African American caught doing this either. Now if he were some white, right-wing Republican doing this, it would be perfectly okay to get away with it.
