If this "violence" prevents this kid from spouting off to the wrong person with some wannabe gang-banger bullshit and getting his ass beat or worse, then by all means, beat his ass on Facebook once a week.
I used to be in the "don't beat your kids" camp. Then I saw way too many kids doing dumb shit like hitting their parents only to be put on "timeout". Sorry, but kids need to be taught that violence begets violence. When that child grows up, what's gonna happen if he or she decides "Oh I'm mad...I'ma hit someone!" Is the person they hit gonna put them on timeout...or beat their ass? Spankings and such aren't child abuse. You're preparing the kid for adulthood and to live in a world that doesn't revolve around them and their emotions.
"Time Out" is pure BS. Most parents know that it doesn't work, at least past the age of about 4. You want to punish a kid, you take something away from them that they want.
I agree with that depending on what you're punishing them for. For minor infractions, general disobedience, etc., sure take things away. If they are inflicting harm on someone else or threatening to, then I see no problem with spankings. It's the golden rule in action.
Now this inevitably leads to someone saying: "But you're teaching the kid that violence is okay."
Sorry but, no. If you spank your child because they went out of their way to hurt someone else, it's clear that they believed violence was okay long before you disciplined them. All you're doing now is making them question that belief. |

FauxReal is right.
If that kid knew about violence prior to him getting a whooping, then he was right to get whupped on. |

No one should be whipped like that. better that than to get a whipping out on the streets by the real gangbangers which is wayyyyy worse plus, that gangbanging mess ain't nothing to play around with alot of kids ending up dead or rotting away in prison because of gangbanging and such good kids too intelligent and full of potential but yet wasted all that talent and energy for the gangbanging lifestyle but to learn at home than to learn out on the streets it's a cold dangerous world we live in and I think we as parents need to protect our children more real talk |

Absolutely. I totally agree. Mainly because that's how I was (and sometimes still am, lol) disciplined regarding punishment. It was always 100% effective in my case. I knew if I wanted to keep my electronics, TV time, Michael Jackson stuff, etc, I always had to be cooperative and obedient towards my parents. Worked with me as well. The whippings stopped at five though because my mama saw the welts on my butt and didn't wanna give me anymore. Any further punishment meant I couldn't do what I was promised because I was behaving badly. One day, I got real upset and my mom told me to go to my room and close it. Somehow... that changed everything. I stopped acting bad after that. I was probably 7.
Then again it don't work for every kid, which is a shame. So if you know what will discipline the child, by all means do it because we all have different ways of handling it. [Edited 1/7/11 16:38pm] |

Gotta love the PC self-righteous crowd
Forget about the means for a moment, and consider the long term main objective.
You cannot communicate with ALL kids in the same language, some of them get the idea from an adult perspective and you wouldn't have to worry about them fuckin' up after that, there're others who mistake an elder's patience for weakness and they use that to run a muck. I bet there was talk before this video took place, nobody get an ass whooping on camera the FIRST TIME around, whatever the kid did, he must've kept a deaf ear on the sit downs his uncle gave him before otherwise this whole thing wouldn't have happened in the first place.
Granted, years from now he'll thank his Uncle, the same man some of you condemn right now. [Edited 1/8/11 7:10am] |
