The T.V Show Dallas

Ok i was not even alive when this show was on lol in fact it ended a year after i was born.

But although it is cheesy at time's especially those GOD AWFUL choreographed fight scenes, but the show is very classy the way it look's and i like the nostalgia of the 70's and 80's that come's with it even though i didn't live through it lol

I'm home on vacation and been watching this all day with my grandma i am actually enjoying the show shockingly biggrin

I know some people watched Dallas pick in the day what are your thought's cool

do you mean back in the day?

Dallas was a big hit, mostly do to the backhanded scheming of JR. In addition, there were the beautiful women. The Episode "who shot JR" debuted after a long summer of speculation, and was at the time one of the highest rated episodes.

Oh, Dallas.

"Who shot J.R.?" was a great storyline and cultural touchstone.

And, Charlene Tilton was the bomb.

I knew about that and the whole dream storyline. Way before i watched the show actually, it is still a cultural phenomena

I only know like 3 thing's about Dynasty

A. Lot's Of cat Fights

B. There was a cliff hanger final episode where they fall down the stairs or something=0

C. You don't have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude biggrin

I was young... Jr. high/High school. My parents let me stay up late on Fridays (10pm EST) to watch... I had to catch the earlier seasons in syndication, though.

Dynasty, meh. It was on during the week (Wed ?), so I didn't get into it right way... then I went to college and didn't have time.

I's much rather watch that trash than "reality TV" or teen dramas where they are too young for the complicated shit they get into. lol

Momma is a real a fanatic of both shows(Dallas & Dynasty).

I still can't bring myself to watch those shows whenever they're on TV. Ridiculous plots & corny overacting.

The first six series of Dallas are fantastic, dare I say the Godfather of the oil industry. Three competing sons gifted and cursed with differing charactaristics of the father. When they began phasing the subleties out of JR's character and made him a pantomime baddie, it all went pear-shaped - going especially bongo after an angel appears him and shows him his life if he wasn't such a cunt...

As for Dynasty, it's high camp but is very watchable until the six or seventh series - it's exhausting though, every scene is high drama, every conversation a revelation. Joan Collins is so darkly charasmatic and glam. Again, it all went completely apeshit koo koo when they started replacing actors mid-series and explaing their physical differences away with plastic surgery storylines. Also, when the UFO appeared to the third (or fourth?) actress who played Fallon and she fell in love with the handsome humanoid alien. Mad as a cloud of screwdrivers.

That who shot JR season was the shit lol I think the guy who played Bobby was trying to renegotiate his contract so they were trying to kill him off lol then I guess they worked it out and he came back as if he was dreaming falloff

Although the death of Bobby Ewing and that one entire season without him being a dream counts as a huge "jumped the sharks" moment, Dallas really started to go downhill in the TV rating when Pam Barnes crashing her car into a oll tanker rig.

I LOVEd Dallas. I must have seen (almost) every episode. Jack Ewing (Dack Rambo) was a sex bomb, but that was in the season that turned out to be but a dream. smile

Love me some Dallas. As a kid living in Texas, when I first moved to the US, watching TV was my way of learning English and learning about the culture around me. I immersed myself in everything "Texas." So I adored the over-the-topness of Dallas. Hell, that was the American dream for me cuz I'd never seen people living "fabulous" lives like that.

When I moved to the Dallas area to attend college and later when I moved to Dallas proper to live, I saw first hand how much of that show was based on reality, as far as the lifestyle is concerned. Watching the shows, now as an adult, is a trip cuz I know a lot of the locations and landmarks they show. It's too funny watching JR mention a street or restaurant that I know personally.

For the last 12 years I've lived about 15 minutes from Southfork and I always point it out to folks when I drive by. But it wasn't until a friend from NC came to visit who insisted on taking the tour that I saw Southfork up close. It's much smaller than it appears on tv. But again it was a trip seeing the pool where Miss Ellie would sip her iced tea. Or where so many BBQs ended with SOMEBODY getting pushed in the pool. lol

I've been thinking about buying the DVDs since they don't show it anymore on the Soap Network. I posted an article a few months ago about the new version of the series which will feature a lot of the originial characters. But that terrible movie planned with John Travolta and J.Ho as SueEllen shot in TORONTO was thankfully scrapped.

Little known fact...

Dallas is in part responsible for the boom in home/personal use of VHS/Beta recorders.

Military personnel and their families stationed overseas knew about Dallas, but were way behind in the storyline. Families stateside would record the show and ship the tapes to their loved ones overseas.

It was so huge, it spiked the sale of the recorders and tapes.

Wish I could remember where I read that. lol

I'm firmly planted in denial

LOL, that's how I used to watch it! It came on Friday nights, but I was out boogieing, so I'd record it and watch it Sunday morning in bed.
